The only problem I have with PvP in RP is that people feel like they are forced to be the best.

That is because there is a pressure to win, at least part of the time. When you go up against a guild with many good fighters, or you have an ongoing rivalry with someone that is good at dueling, this becomes even more apparent. Enter roleplay, with politics, assassination, manipulation, etc, if you want it. Just make sure that you aern't REPLACING PvP with the above; if someone comes and challenges you and attacks you, don't whine "omg but I was teh manipulating you and now its all a waste :<". This is why my favorite character was an assassin. Noxfencermage that is 7xGM (i specifically refused powerscrolls for the Grandmaster Assassin title) isn't exactly PvP awesome, but Alyx abused the Aeirs name to make people trust him. Granted I never got around to any large scale manipulation and backstabbery but rubbish happens.

I suggest the community come up with accepted assassination rules; start with Dymm's writeup, wherever it may be, and hell, I'd love to see you all roleplaying out a unique recipe for RP; get a true poison maker (80+) and a true alchemist (GM) and a spirit medium (GM+ ss) to work together and make you a poison that affects body, mind and soul, so that if they do or don't die, they are incapacitated and weakened on every level for a few days or a week. Put real meaning behind assassination; ACE unfortunately only did 'humiliation' assassinations, whereas they should be strategically placed, I.E. preventing someone from going to a military meeting that they'd supremely benefit from, and if they don't go, they are insulting everyone else at the meeting, and make sure that word doesn't arrive from messengers that the person was attacked, yadda yadda manipulation. Just remember that it is your characters job to tie up loose ends, not your job to script the RP so there aern't any, but that is a whole 'nother rant entirely.

SOLID, SOLID points made by Grigori, Beleth, and Mith.

With MTC our recruits/footsoldiers all start with gm armor until their full members. For the mere fact, alot of recruits arnt too great at rp..so when they die they won't feel as bad wearing gm armor...by the time their full members..they know how to fight and can put it to the real test with decent armor. We may lose a bit because of it, but it's still fun rp.. (Sooometimes we let mages slide for crappy lrc armor)
