...and he could feel the warmth and moistness of the blood as it slowly slid across his face. It was becoming colder, and numbness was setting in. Each breath became more difficult to obtain. The screams of terror and pain that had echoed through the night had stopped now - they were dead, all of his classmates.

The young boy had been on a field trip with his classmates from the Dark Magincia School of Arcane Arts. They had trekked to the base of the mountains southeast of Dark Skara Brae to study some rare plants that grew in the area. It was only hours ago that he and his companions were playing together and discussing the discoveries they had made that day as the sun slowly sank behind the mountains in the Feluccian sky that unusually spring like day. Now that same boy lay on his back, feeling the life slowly drain out of him. After nightfall his camp had come under attack by a patrol of Ogres from Minax's army. The monstrous creatures struck out of the darkness with no warning. The boy was all that remained of his group now.

The boy heard the thud of heavy footsteps approaching him. He turned his head to see an Ogre Lord staring at him, growling lowly with an evil grin on its horrendous face. The boy knew this was to be the end of his short life... when suddenly the air around him was lit by a blinding light. He could feel heat emanating from it, and it had a strangely sulfuric odor. Howls of pain and fear arose from the band of ogres. The boy felt a strong gust of wind, and then there was darkness... and that is all the boy would remember that night.

"In Vas Mani" chanted a female voice softly.

The boy began to regain his senses. He was no longer at the campsite. He could feel the cold rock that had been his bed under him. He opened his eyes and looked around. Through the darkness, his elven eyes were able to make out a large cave that surrounded him. He could not make out the ceiling above, just the jagged stalactites extending down from the darkness. There was no visible source of light, just what he could view in the darkness by way of his Elven night vision.

The cuts and gashes that covered his body earlier were completely gone, as if they were never there. He felt better than ever, except a little hungry he thought to himself.

"In Mani Ylem" a soft female voice recited behind him.

The boy turned slowly and his eyes fell upon the most magnificent being he had ever seen.

"A dragon!" the boy said quietly in awe. Oddly, he felt no fear.

"Maybe this will help satisfy your hunger child", the dragon said kindly as she glanced down at the cooked bird she had magically summoned for him.

The boy was confused at first, but remembered in his studies that some dragons are telepathic. "Thank you very much miss dragon" the child replied humbly.

"Anytime my dear" she replied, "and my name is Sanjira by the way."

"I am Aligos Galadrim of Dark Magincia" the boy replied.

After his meal, Alagos and Sanjira discussed the events leading to their meeting and she consoled him. Upon learning that his parents were among those slain, Sanjira offered to take the boy in and look after him.

The next morning, after breakfast, Sanjira told Alagos she had a task for him.

"I need you to gather some garlic, ginseng, and spider's silk from the forest outside this cave. I shall teach you to help others as I have helped you"

Over the next 10 years, Sanjira taught the young elf much about the ways of magic and alchemy. He was an excellent student, and she was amazed by his focus and diligence. Sanjira was most amazed, however, by the magical power that seemed to emanate from the young mage. After years of training, Sanjira had taught him all that she could. He was a young man now, and he had mastered the arcane arts. His healing powers were extraordinary, much to the pleasure of his teacher. She also noticed that his offensive spells were exceptionally powerful; beyond the levels of any mage she had ever observed. She knew that the unusual amount of power was due to Alagos focusing the pains of his childhood and channeling that intensity into his spells. This was a point of concern to her, but she knew his heart was good and had confidence in his self control.

At the age of 20, Alagos set out to begin his journeys on his own. Sanjira was sad to see him go, but knew he was capable of many great things and that the world needed people like him to combat evil. So the young elf set out on a journey that would lead him down the paths of adventure, mystery, and love...
