|
Well first I have to lend you abit of history for this idea, now a days I bartend for Umbra as is known, and lately some patrons have been asking for stronger drink, I served them ale and wine through game mechanics and Role Play, but in the RP one of my my normals, Zeth Melgair, wanted the strongest I had, Jack being who he is handed him a his personal flask. Needless to say Zeth stumbled off that night.
Well, Jack has been relocated to Umbra's new tavern [swing on by and have an ale with Kelly sometime!] allowing for abit more RP, I had the idea of makeing an in house brew for sale within Umbra, after a bit of thought I arrived on the idea of selling this to another client, and running it across land, a decent RP in my eyes.
How you ask? Well, two swamp dragons are running across a large span of land with saddle bags full of stronger than normal alchohol, if the route was through another kingdom, after a few runs it would be found out, and not many groups would take kindly to this. From a lightbringer standard it breeds hostility and anger more than even the most pure paladin's occasion sip of wine. From a dark perspective, the more shadey folk might want a cut of the proffit.
I can see where some people might not like this plot because it does involve alchohol, but some of the most popular RP areas are Taverns, or at the least have a bar tender on hand?
This idea is pretty rough in this state, and this post is really to toss around ideas, and see if anyone was intersted.
Yes, I was watching Smokey and the Bandit when I though of this. East down and bound Atlantic. _________________

Sounds like a variation on a Caravan run. those were always fun to either raid or defend. |

Sayeth the Gypsy: Sounds like a good idea so long as it's not gypsies you're overpowering *scowls and points to the comment about raiding caravans*

Just to add my own thoughts to this, although I do like the idea.
I think it eventually could get even more interesting if the caravan was involved. I kind of imagine the possibility of trying to deceive the land holders of the area you are trying to caravan through with fake documents to meet somewhere for something important. Example: They know you are coming, but you set something up and send them an 'important document' for a meeting they -MUST- attend at some time, and then try to caravan through during that time before they realize that there's nothing going on or it's not even important.
That's just an example idea. There could be lots of other things, too. Another neat idea I randomly thought of was herding tons of small animals to their main fortress and see if you can convince them to hire an exterminator, which consists of the two swamp dragons with packs(most of which is alcohol, some of which is 'extermination gear') and then asking them to bring you to your next job site. Essentially trick the people into assisting you with the caravan unknowingly.
Just small, interesting things like that. Figured I'd add that sort of idea to help you out with it =) |

If you do a caravan, take all realism you can into account. While a lot of corners are cut in UO RP to make it work (and this isn't a pot shot at UO RP, as some corners must be cut in ANY online roleplay medium, especially MMOs), there are a few accidents that make the whole thing a waste of time. Example being the old caravan to TSE... The whole roleplay was that all that lumber would make a moongate unstable, so they traveled over a land route (using one of the greater moongates to switch facets if needed) and boats... They ended up bringing TSE a pack horse that contained a commodity deed, which is seriously NOT a piece of paper that contains several tons of wood, you redeem it at a bank and the banker gives you the commodity they were holding.
Just an example. Have fun with whatever you end up doing. |

Sadly I missed the caravan, which I do regret. Anyway, I was thinking of starting this by word of mouth, selling to a few people who stumble into the Tavern, with the goal being a well known GM or rather heavy pocketed person wanting a large bit of drink, to supply of a tavern fuel fires whatever. How I see it Jack can run small orders himself, then moveing up to a 5 man team, two heavy legged swamp dragons and a scout on horseback, from there it could go to guide work to being a smugglers run, but I am glad to see this is being liked. I have to cut this post short, I'm borrowing my schools connection, and my teacher is giving me funny looks. [P.S. he almost let me instal UO,but we're on macs, will uo run on this eMac?] _________________

I also like the idea. I am probably one of the few that have run many caravans before. If you need any help or advise I would love to help. _________________ Grand Duchess Molly Kaldhel

I like the idea. Try running a load thru Fel, say from Delucia to Papua in the Lost Lands.
All sorts of unexpected adventures may occur. |

The route is dependant on the Buyer...someone has to buy it for me to run it. _________________
