Dayhawk tried in desperation to tend to his beloved wife, Crystal.
She was wretched in a fever, her brow soaking with beads of sweat. The night air outside was chill. Tangi L'erak, as he was known in his native Drow tounge, stired the flame in the hearth and covered his wife with another woolen blanket.
She had been sick for days. All the healers that been called could do little to help her. Their herbs and incantaions did nothing!
"Worthless Magics! Worthless Remedies. HEAL MY WIFE! XSA DOS!!" he had screamed to the last of the failed healers before throwing his out of his home.
Dayhawk battled with himself, should he turn her in the height of her fever?
Panic and fear begin to set in.
"What am I suppose to do, Crystal? Please just tell me!". He fought back tears as he stared at her slowly withering body.
She moaned in her sleep as if she was trying to whisper the answer to her much loved Husband.
"You can't leave me. I'm not ready, not yet," he pleaded through clenched teeth.
They had often talked of turning. As much as she loved him she could not take that path. He would not turn her, not without her permission. It was hard to deny his heart. He would not let her go. He could not let her go.
******
Crystal, passed away just before sunrise. He hated the cursed dawn.Dayhawk howled in raveged pain.
"I WILL BRING YOU BACK TO ME!!!"
He covered her body with the blanket. Speaking the ancient words "Anh Mi Sah Ko," he walked out the door talking to someone that could not be seen. |

His funds were drying up faster than he intended. A week long drinking binge, to celebrate the season, had taken it's toll on his pockets and person. Gambling houses, back alley dice games, and an untold number of bottles of ale, left Riven near broke.
The payment from the Northland Militia wasn't enough to allow him to dive headlong into his vices. He would have to negotiate a new deal, with the fighters that were now regrouping in Mazewood.
"It's time to find some sidework." He mumbled to himself through a pounding hangover.
This was the slow season. No one spent gold on assinations, poisioning, kidnapping this close to the New Year. Bad luck in some cultures, he figured. Riven spent the evening travelling from bar to bar looking for work or a sucker he could beat at a fixed dice game.
He ended up in Umbra, at the Den of Sin, drinking alone in the cornor. Spending his last 7 bits.
Sometime later a pale figure walked in, Riven did the best he could to watch the stranger without appearing to obvious. The stranger looked to be Drow, but had the all to familar look of one that had been turned.
The turned one introduced himself as Tangi L'erak, Dayhawk. After common plesantries and a few pints of ale, Riven found some work.
"Than I shall bring you a live body? Any prefrences?" Riven asked taking mental note.
"Human, Female, Attractive, Blue-Green Eyes, a fighting spirit." Dayhawk rattled off, as if he knew exactly what he was looking for.
"And if she were to be a beggar, perhaps a refugee from Minoc?" Riven said without thinking about his current situation with the Northland Militia.
Dayhawk smirked, "That would do, but you could expect larger payment if she were....lets say....established."
A heafty down payment was given for services to be renderred and Riven set off toward Britian. He was back in the Human Trafficking trade, there was a wealthy contact in Britian that might have a few suggestions. |

The white dress flowed around her ankles as she walked. Her slender frame bent over to smell a blooming flower, while her soft blonde hair cascaded around her face.
”Hello there miss.” A man approached.
”Hello.” She smiled politely towards him and then looked back with interest to the flower.
Her eyes fluttered as she tried to focus on the room surrounding her. The throbbing of her head was the most intense feeling she had ever felt. She attempted to raise her hand to feel for any wound, but the ropes held her back from doing so. She could feel her heart start to beat frantically as she scanned the dark room.
A feeling of cold came over her body, but she could not seem to open her eyes. She could feel others talking around her and the hard stone beneath her body. With one last attempt she managed to open her eyes. This room was much different and there seemed to be a crowd of people standing around, people she had never seen before. Before she was able to get a word out she saw a man quickly move towards her and shove what seemed to be a muffin into her mouth. Panic overcame her once more as she struggle to breath in air. Particles of the muffin were flying inward towards her throat and she could feel herself gagging helplessly.
Her body lay against the cold stone floor, unconscious yet again. On this evening there were plans greater than she could imagine in motion, yet the plans lay contingent on her.
Malleola stood outside herself as she could feel her soul being pulled from her body. She was asleep, but she knew she needed to fight back. Something was taking her away. However, there would be no fight. Malleola’s body lay motionless on the ground, her back releasing the previous arch, her soul completely removed.
Her body took in a deep breath as her eyes darted open. She could hear faint voices in the background. Looking down she saw that she was bound and she saw traces of blood upon her dress.
”Crystal…” She could hear someone calling her name, but she could not recognize the voice. It came again,”Crystal, do you recognize this man?”
She looked closely at the man nearing her and immediately felt relief. ”Tangi! My love!”
”Untie her.” The voice spoke once more.
Tangi approached her, untying the rope quickly. She lunged at him, placing her arms around his neck. ”My love, what has happened?”
The voice, which she could now tell was coming from a woman behind Tangi, spoke once more, ”You should explain before she looks into a mirror.”
”Shh. It is okay now. You have returned to me.”
She looked down at her body almost in a panic. Her eyes looked over the fair skin. She placed her hands down around her small waist. Her eyes darted to Tangi, ”What is going on?”
”I will explain, but you should rest. Come, let me take you home.”
Home. The word coming from her husband provided much relief, but her mind still swirled with many questions. As they reached their home she set the questions aside and let the exhaustion set in. She was back home and in the arms of the man she loved, everything else could be answered tomorrow. |
