The Character of Reeve

Just as there are waters that touch upon all planes like some strange artery of commerce there are winds that scour all whens and wheres. And as the waters allow that infamous boatman to navigate their mysteries, so too do the winds grant passage to another. Though it cannot be said that this traveler is in control of his destination.

It happened sometime after the shattering. That much is certain. The storm was no more freakish than any other. It was only just enough to darken the sky and moisten the soil. There was no thunder, no lightening. And at the end there was a gathering in the wind. The damp autumn leaves skirled past the small by-street in Haven. In its nondescript wake there stood a man. A dark metal helm enveloped his head. It twisted this way and then that, inspecting this new place. He waited, still looking around.

At last he lifted his chin some and called out: "Aleta?"

Into the silence that chased after his query he poured all of his attention. There was nothing. No one. For just a moment his shoulders sagged, but under what burden only he could say and that he did not speak of. Instead, he lifted his hands before him and clenched his fists, testing the strength there, measuring the agility.

"I start from the bottom again," he nodded. He reached up and lifted the helm off his head. His hair was dark, dark brown and steely grey in some places. The eyes, washed out blue, looked around the village. There were people in the road, passing this way and that. He frowned, his sparse beard folding into ancient looking creases in his face.

A young lady stopped near to him and asked if he might escort her to the local provisioner. He studied her a moment and then nodded. It would not be hard to find someone that wanted to be found. She followed just behind him, speaking animatedly of her marriage to come. Her name was Gayle. He thought that amusing but told her only that his name was Reeve.

The provisioner's store was, indeed, easy to find. She held out a purse with some coins in it but he shook his head and bade her put it away. She went inside and he trailed her, examining the stock. There would be time to come back later, he was sure.

Gayle finished her business quickly and made for the door. But the young woman stopped cautiously by the door and looked at him again.

"You look like a warrior, sir." She seemed to be almost shy.

"I am no knight, but I have intimate knowledge of warfare."

She puzzled over his words, frowning slightly. She was quite beautiful in her innocence. "Who do you fight for?"

He shook his head reflexively. "I don't know."

"No? You led me here without taking payment. That is most humble and compassionate. Certainly you are virtuous. You must travel to Britain and offer your services to Lord British."

"Virtuous," he tasted the word. "I can be that."

"We need that," she curtsied and disappeared out the door.

He looked at the closed wooden door, contemplating. "Virtue," he breathed. "I'll get started right away."

The Seldom Used AIM acct- Silent Josua

About the Player- He's been ghosting around the New England area for about a third of a century and around Sosaria since 1994. The Atlantic Shard has been a favorite haunt of his since 2000, though with significant gaps in attendance. He's been participating in RPGs since he was the tender age of seven, when his evil mother forced him into the world of Dungeons and Dragons where he promptly traded his childhood innocence for an imagination. Nowadays he is ecstatically married to a wonderful heathen and combats the nefarious forces of mediocrity and the loathsome banality of the ignorant masses on a daily basis. And yes, oh yes, he actually has a decade long love affair with a live action role-playing game where he sometimes camps in the deeps of the woods with many friends and plots to viciously murder their characters and break their spirits with agonizing deliberation.

Gaming Interests that Relate to UO- My preference is for good RP and moderate to high tension. As for PVP I like to trust the player(s) I'm in it with. As such I'm not quick to attack, even when I have many reasons to IC. If my peers aren't having fun I'm not either.
