The Sea Turtle was a medium sized Argosy, the standard type of Maritime Union vessels. Its construction was not for the intent of war but for the purpose of holding cargo. Due to its bulky dimensions it would trudge fiercely against the push of the waves towards its destination like a wall of shields.

“There is substantial damage to the nose and the right flank.” Isk said as he pointed to the bruised Sea Turtle anchored off of Magincia’s coast.

The Magnate reflected on the encounter at sea, how the Sea Turtle and its escort ship ran into a storm between a chain of islands near Buccaneer’s Den. How they came across an upturned ship and amidst the investigation became surrounded by an ambush.

“Four ships as I remember, lighter than ours. Their ships ran flags which showed a red mask in the forefront and swords behind it. The pirates maneuvered quickly and seemed to be riding the storm like experts while we steered in desperation,” he paused. “Had it not been for co-ordination under this pressure we would have been killed and so would Merrique, the representative of our gypsy friends”

Thraxas held to the chin of his thin red beard as he kept his attention on the Magnate. “What makes you say it is murder they wanted?”

“The voice of their leader is one that is familiar and though I could barely hear it through the hard hitting waves, I know that I heard Drow.” Isk tilted his head as if in confusion at his own words “Or elf."

He turned to see Thraxas. The appearance of the Presidium member was one of deep though and the sight of Thraxas’ Maritime Union ring against his crimson beard, propelled by his rubbing fingers made it appear as if it were a ship on a sea of blood.

“The race is one of killers” Isk added. This enemy is new and organized. Their tactics forced our ships side by side. Some of this damage here is from Union ships scraping each other.” He pointed towards the flanks without even looking.

“Expensive.” Thrax commented, “But worth the trip it took. The goods are delivered”

Isk nodded. His porcelain mask hid the anxiety on his face. “We’ll get the Sea Turtle repaired. Resources have already been spent on the construction of more and thanks to the possible contract with one Tyran Corvalus we’ll have enough to set aside for contingencies.”

“The name is not familiar,” Thraxas mentioned as he brought his hand off his chin.

“He is a wealthy Magincian born from the darker facet. I will bring the contract he proposed to the others and speak to it at the castle. I accepted the deal with Ellesbeth present. We must simply retract a resource from the ground in Malas. Some gargoyles will survey the digging location later this day.”

“You move fast” said Thrax.

“I’ve learned from the Protectorate that it is better to move quickly than let others push you.”
