For combat,

Destruction/Conjuration/Restoration
One-Handed Weapons/Light Armor

Offhand spells, mainhand weapon.

I have 85 enchanting and 100 blacksmithy
And probably some other skills I'm forgetting! Level 35 though.

One-handed, block, heavy armor. Mace and shield. Woo! Also have some restoration skill. 100 enchanting and blacksmith.

Level 50. Very Happy Also a werewolf, but as cool as being one is, the downsides stink. Can't open your inventory when transformed and no resting bonuses.

I wish I had followed the legion guy (can't remember his name—the one who's not Ralof) to the Guardian Stones at the beginning of the game. Could have been a lot easier.

Cal - I am playing the same build but with Heavy Armour instead of Light. Kind of Battlemage-ish.

Rosar - you missed the stones at the beginning? Ugh, I can't even imagine. I'm at Level 12 now and even with the Warrior's stone on I STILL feel like I'm not gaining fast enough

Heavy armor, dual wielding. Anything in melee range of me gets choppinated. Nothing special to look at either, armor is all mismatched. I'll take a picture of my character when the good appearance mods are out. Wink

Nice heavy armor set. Looks a lot like an old Death Knight tier set from WoW. I never even knew the Warrior Stone existed either. Sonofabitch.

Either way, just beat the main story last night. Now to spend FOREVER doing quests!

*Searches!*

Next character I make is going to be a dual wielding dagger sneak. 30x Sneak Attacks here I come.

That's the new one I made. It hurts—a lot. Also got him invisibility (expert illusion). I wasted a perk on Master Illusion, I think, but oh well. Not much AR from Nightingale Armor, but it doesn't matter much—it looks cool, has some decent skill buffs, and it keeps me from getting killed in one hit. Dodging around, invisibility and the Shadow Warrior perk of sneak take care of the rest.

lol, I've got to go after that one after I've gotten the rest of my thief skills finished. +200 net carry capacity combined with the Extra Pockets pickpocketing perk.

Thing about the armor skills is that if you're playing well, they don't increase as quickly as the other skills. You want the extra armor rating to mitigate the attacks that get through, but you don't want it to act as your shield. Sucks when you're up against harder-hitting enemies whose power attacks bring you down to half health. If you get smithing early on, you can get a good set of improved equipment. Then you can go to an area filled with low-level enemies and let them wail on you for tiny amounts of damage at a time. Heal yourself every few seconds and you'll get skill in restoration, too. It's power gaming to the core, but if you use heavy armor, it's nice to get the Conditioning perk (70 skill required) so you can ignore its weight when worn. It's also a good way to train blocking. Get the Elemental Protection perk if you use a shield—it's worth it. High-level mages can do a lot of damage. The ones who use frost spells are especially dangerous if you have no way of retaliating at range.

Also, use your five training sessions per level to get your armor skill up to 50. After that, it becomes too expensive to justify. If you're a thief, pickpocket the gold back from the trainer after every session, and you'll have free training and free pickpocket training. Grelka, the armor merchant in Riften, provides light armor training. One of the Companions at Jorvaskr in Whiterun can train you in heavy armor.

For smithing, just buy a bunch of iron ingots and leather, and make nothing but iron daggers. Sell them back to the smith (at a loss, so have some extra money on-hand) and then repeat. If you're feeling cheap, find a pickaxe and clear out some of the mines, and you'll get free ore every few days.

The selling to the smith thing works real well. I think I spent about ... 15k or so working smithy from 0-100. I also made some Hide Bracers when I was overstocked on leather. Not that money isn't hard to come by. Dragon scales/bones sell for a lot, and are easy to get when you're ready to make the armor.
