Dear Eclyse,

Greetings.

I pray all is well with you and all my friends of Ashencrosse. As you may have been told, I have begun searching for my fiance.' I have not heard from her in a time longer than I expected it to be. So far, my efforts have been fruitless. Even her mentor-father-figure Balzar has vanished without a trace. It is my fear that he has abducted her and fled to parts unknown. Thraxas himself is unable to find either of them, and his network of spies and informants is quite competent and vast.

Thus it will be quite impossible for me to patrol Ashencrosse as I once did, and assist in finding out what the threat is to the Treefellows. Not wanting to leave you all in the lurch, and them desperate for aid, I have hired a trusted scout and friend, Korbin Durr of Papua, to keep a watch on the forest. He will report directly to you. I have given him my own trained pigeon to use in that communication. His writing and language is quite native Papuan so it may be necessary to speak at length with him to get details, but do not worry about that.

If I find my beloved, I will contact you so that you may share my joy with our friends.
