“Breath..” Sarah reminded herself. The day was unusually hot and humid, the air was also thick with emotion. She had felt it when she awoke this morning making her bath even more of a welcomed event. Afterwards, Rufus had joined her for breakfast of some fruit and flavored breads with spiced tea. All in tense silence. Afterwards she had lost track of him while she gathered up the last of the loose ends.

They had fought the night before with heated words exchanged between them for the first time. He didn’t want her to leave which she had found amusing at first. HE..Rufus!! The man that never could stay at home since their marriage now wanted to forbid her from leaving. Looking back she could still see his face as if it was set in stone, hard and ungiving. She had grown fearful and rushed out of their chambers only to have her arm caught in his strong hand and pulled back against his body.

“Sarah, I will never permit you to leave me upset,” Rufus softly whispers into her slender elven ear while his grip tightens upon her arm. Feeling him against her body and hearing the determination in his voice Sarah gave in to his wishes. Just nodding in reply, she had remained close to him until he left to seek out the monks.

Now she finds herself dressed in the finest of elven tailored clothing, her hair pulled back from her face, yet veiled in a sheer golden cloth held in place by an ornate crown made of silver and Nujelm pearls. Only her lavender eyes show as she scans the main hallway in her family’s palace. Sarah makes note of the number of monks that had arrived. Many had stayed within the Palace with reluctant acceptance of her invitation. Their escorts, baggage carriers, guards and the others in their traveling party decided to stay outside the city walls. Rufus had spent the remaining part of the night conversing with the brothers of the Isle of Sinta, exchanging ideas and making sure all was properly prepared.

The time had come to leave. Leaving the cool palace walls she feels the heat once more. The final act was to get upon the chaise carrier that elven males lift upon their shoulders to take her and Naji away. Climbing a few stairs that go up to the ceremonial litter which consisted of a canopy and walls made of sheer fabric, that only grants shade to the rider and no protection. A wide sedan chair sits upon a thick platform. To which are affixed four long poles that twelve elven men carry. Her veiled cubical was padded with pillows and luxurious fabrics, reflexing the wealth of her Empire. Once inside she sees Naji, settled and asleep. There are several of these carriers, not as fancy as hers but as luxuriously detailed. Accompanying them were her maids and other members of her household as well as the caretakers of Naji.

Settling in beside her son Sarah looks out through the sheer veiled walls of her compartment. Her lavender eyes scan through the crowd one last time for her husband. Feeling them being lifted up Sarah’s heart sinks. Frantically she looks about, searching for any sign of Rufus. Finding none she puts on her “Queenly face” and looks out to the crowd. Hearing a commotion to her left, she peers out through the sheer walls of her sedan chair. A rider, coming on fast towards the procession. With his face hidden by his helm though Sarah senses a familiarity about him. Coming a breast to litter, he matches his horse’s gait to the slowness of the carriers strides. Being leveled with her she wonders who would be able to approach her in such a manner. Leaning over Ameer Rajm to shield him Sarah pulls the cloth wall back. Before she could demand to know who he was, the rider begins to remove his helm.

“Rufus!” Sarah cries out while getting onto her hands and knees within the litter. Lunging further out of the curtains she shows him her relief and joy.

“Aye Sarah, I cannot allow you to leave with out a proper escort. I can not find anyone more suitable than me.” Half hearing his words and with the skills of a great horsewoman, Sarah slips onto his saddle, sitting sideways in his lap. Oblivious to evryone Sarah cradles her small body within his arms and leans against his chest. “Forgive me my husband.”

Taking the veil off her face Rufus runs his finger over her lips. “No need for apologies.” With that simple statement the caravan continues to move towards the docks. Both parents realizing that their fate now intertwines with that of their son.
