Ditto sat in the middle of the large bed, with her knees brought up to her chest, hugging them in tightly while she rocked back and forth. The warm glow of the dying fire in the fireplace was the only light in the room. But, the young woman didn't seem to notice. She was wishing she'd asked E'mun if she could go with him and stay at his home for the night, or at least until Tarothin came home from his trainings and business. She wanted so badly not to be alone this night. Every sound made her jump, and every shadow made her go stiff and still.
Sir Hummer had been very concerned and careful in his handling of his Lady this eve and had sat with her off and on, only leaving her when it came to duty and to see if the messengers had been able to contact her husband, Lord Armunn.
Her brother, Lord Beldon, had been the first one her friend, Mea Tika, had notified about the incident. Ditto remembered his worried look when he had entered the Garden's hottub room and found her there, rocking back and forth like she was this minute. After hearing what happened, Beldon, told Mea to remain with his sister in the room until a guardsman came. He was now of a murderous mind and left the Garden in a hurry.
Ditto trembled slightly at a sudden memory of Balbanes throwing her up against the wall, her head slamming into the cold, hard stone. She touched her lips lightly with her fingertips, and she noted they were still rough and sore from his angry, assaulting kisses.
She remembered the attack from Balbanes only vaguely. Some parts clear in detail, and other parts only a blur in her mind. She could remember bringing her knee up, trying to find it's mark, but didn't know if she'd even made contact. His hands had been cruel and quick. He was intending on taking her by force. Ditto had intended on being dead before she would let that happen, and so she fought against the much stronger & stealthier man. Spitting in his face, hoping to anger him to the point of wanting to kill her instead. The second wave of the attack was near instantaneous and Ditto had lain bleeding on the floor.
It had been much later after the attack when, at the Hostel, Ditto was very fortunate to have run into her friend, Galnor Bloodmoon, and his new wife, Cass. Both were healers of remarkable measure, and with thier help, Ditto was almost as good as new, at least physically. Her concussion had been dealt with over a few hours and even the ugly, dark bruises she'd been terrified that Tarothin would see, were faded by Cass' healing touch. The only sign that anything had happened at all was the one thing she didn't notice before...her swollen and bruised lips.
Ditto rested her head down upon her knees in worry of Tarothin. The men were sure to tell him, at least, of the fact that she was attacked. She shut her eyes tightly against the thought that he would be hurt by the news. Would he be angry with her? He always seemed to be angry whenever she got herself injured. She squeezed her eyes even tighter at the thought. She couldn't take his anger. Not right now. It would just be too much. She rocked back and forth harder, tears trickling down her cheek, as she quietly sobbed. _________________ **************************************

Walking through the front gates of his small keep, Tarothin was...you can almost say, in a pleasant mood. Everything was going well, he had only need to talk to a few people to continue on with plans, but relatively a good day. That was until a servant stuttered out that he believed that the Lady Amunn look quite distressed when she came in. Only imagining what that can be, he nodded to the servant and handed him his riding cloak and gloves.
With a more quickened pace, he went up to the living quarters and strode through the bedroom door. Ditto jumped at the sound of the door opening looking up to make eye contact with him briefly. Upon looking at her tear streaked face, he noticed that there was something different about her lips. Being to far away to see exactly what was different, he started to stride forward, only to have Ditto lower her head into her hands to continue sobbing.
"Ditto, what is it, what is wrong?" |

'What is wrong?' How could he be asking that question? It seemed as though the entire town knew. Hadn't he heard?
Ditto peeked up at him from her hands. "I...." She wasn't sure how to respond. She'd expected he would know.
"Didn't you see Beldon or Hummer? Did they na tell you?"
Tarothin shook his head, "I saw no one."
"I..I was attacked. I was at the party. I was just about ta leave and..and I was attacked. That's all. I'm fine now. I'm..oki." She didn't want to go into detail since that would only serve to upset and worry him. She sat up straight and tried to smile to help put him at ease.
As he approached, she searched his eyes and saw the impatient concern that laid beneath and knew he wanted details. As he searched her face in return, she noted a deeper concern lined suddenly with a hint of anger.
Tarothin had seen her bruised lips and his fists clinched as he tried to question her calmly, speaking his suspicions as he did so. "I can see that it was no ordinary attack. Who was it? Who attacked you, love?"
Ditto lowered her head down and stared at a wrinkle in the blankets of the bed as she spoke, thinking he'd blame her for putting herself in a possition of alone with the man, "It was Criss..Balbanes.."
Tarothin's eyes became reddened in hue as his skin took on a blueish tint. His strong hands, becoming stronger while claws grew outward as Ditto continued, " ..I thought he just wanted ta talk. He seemed oki. Just...talk. We argued. I made him mad and..he attacked me. When it was over, he was gone. Beldon came and when he found out, he got very angry and left to find Balbanes." A sudden realization that she hadn't heard from her brother since then hit her. "I havena seen him since".
"Balbanes", he snarled in contempt.
Ditto looked up at the sound of his voice. She reached out a hand gently to place it in his clawed one and looked upto his eyes, lovingly and beseeching him. "Taro, please calm down a lil." His color lightened, and the claws went inward slightly, but Tarothin was still angry. Venomous words were used to describe his anger. An anger directed towards Balbanes and what the man had dared to do. "Taro please..there's..there's more I need to explain".
Tarothin's brow arched up and he looked at her. "More?"
She nodded and, as if preparing himself, he reached out to hold onto the bedpost, and listened to his wife.
"Before he attacked me, he threw me down and tried to..." She took a breath to still herself calmly before she continued, "He tried to do what I allow only you to do. Touched..Taro, he tried to take me by force. He tried, but didna succeed. I didna let em." There. She'd said it and it was over with. She sighed, thinking the rest would be easier now, but then she heard a loud crack of wood as the bedpost gave way under his hand. A hand that once again was was clawed, but this time, he was the daemon in it's complete form, towering over her. Ditto's eyes widened and she sat back away from him for a moment to look up at his face. She had not wanted to upset him this much, but it was too late for that. Hoping somehow to make it better, she reached out to him, but he didn't notice. Nor, in his rage, did he notice that his wife was still in the middle of the large bed when he grabbed it and hurled it across the room. Ditto fell to the floor and scampered over towards the fireplace as the bed smashed hard against the wall and broke into pieces.
She pulled her knees up to her chest again, rocking back and forth. Her eyes darting around the room in near panic as it seemed as though she would drown from the overwhelming guilt she felt at being the reason he was so upset that he'd lost control. "I'm sorry!"
He turned and looked down at his wife, towering over her in his deamon form. His head nearly touching the high ceiling. Four powerful arms, each with claws, and his eyes burning with the flames of hell inside. His deep breathing was like that of a low rumbling thunder, a sound that normally soothed Ditto's heart, but now it only seemed to distress her further. She rambled on, describing the attack and letting him know that she was sorry for getting herself in trouble.
Tarothin, realized that she was blaming herself and thinking he was angry at her instead of Balbanes. He calmed down considerably, he pushed her away gently for a moment as he did away with the angry form to face her as the man that he was. With one hand under her chin, he tenderly brought her face up to look at him when he spoke. "Ditto, love, it's not you I'm angry at. It's not your fault. It's Balbanes. Not yours."
His loving touch and words sank in and she smiled up into his eyes, warmly. If it was possible to fall inlove with the same person all over again, then she just did at that very moment. That sweet moment, however, was still thick with anger. His anger. Tarothin's eyes spoke volumes along with his words. " He shall die at the failed, miserable path life he leads, that he will never....NEVER get what he desires in his now shorter than ever existance."

((later that night))
At the end of the first of many Regulator's training session at their secret training ground, Tarothin spotted Beldon walking up. Excusing himself from his current company, he bid Beldon to follow him.
After a short walk away, Tarothin stops to look at Beldon. "I know of the events that transpired last eve. Ditto has told me everything. Do not worry yourself over Balbanes. He will meet his demise." Beldon nodded in aggreement with a look of anger on his usually laid back facade.
"One thing in that pawn I did not see. I underestimated him. In that...I mean, I underestimated how much of a fool he was. He has greatly greatly underestimated me."
Beldon then asked a certain question that made Tarothin smile andshake his head. "No he does not. He believes so...but does not know for sure." Beldon nodded while saying, "Good."
"He will never see his desires, his dreams come true. He shall never take over Luna. He shall never have my wife. I shall crumble his guild before his eyes. And when he see's all this and his dreams shattered. I shall then end his pathetic and miserable little existance of the weak, cowardly little man he is."
Beldon smiled at this. They both then walked back to the group. In which case Tarothin, excused himself to write a few letters. He kissed very gently Ditto, glad to see her smile again, before he departed.
Later that eve he could think of no other things. The servants were in the bedroom, building a new and more...sturdy bed after the one in which he...broke to say the least.
Sitting down at his study's desk, He could faintly hear the hammering in the other room. Putting down the quill, he walked over to the polished steel mirror and was slightly annoyed at what he saw. There, still lay within his usually crystal blue eyes, a tint of red within the blue. Remembering, he shook his head and pulled off his gloves to inspect his hands. They were more of claws now then they are hands. Closing his eye's he breathed in deeply to try to calm down totally and feel at peace again. When he had thought he done so, he opened his eyes only to see that his hands and eyes were the same.
As he slowly put his gloves back on, "At least the red in my eyes can be overlooked as shadows over the blue."
"Does my now strong hatred towards something cause for me to become more that I hold within me?" He shook his head at that, "No, I am in control, I defeated and accepted that which I became. It cannot be and I have no time to think on it."
Walking over to his desk, he took up the quill again. Before writing..."You have greatly underestimated me indeed. First you wanted the city that my more powerful army could not take. Then you wanted my wife which will never be yours. You have pretty much signed your fate as I do this Letter." Signs the letter as he spoke those last words.
Your dreams will shatter, as you tried to shatter my wife. |
