completely agreed , that is how we ran the Vesper/B-H war
no one was recalling or gating anywhere.......it would have been great with participation. But those of us who were there still had a blast.

Personal highlight , stealing the BH supply ship from the Vesper Harbor

Wars should be fought without gates or recalls. If an army wants to fight, then they will have to march there. Static moongates, mounts, and ships would be the mode of transportation. This would solve the problem of everyone getting involved when it wouldn't make sense logistically, and let's defenders setup strategies.

Taro's post about leaving some behind is a nice idea but wouldn't work in the way he stated. But if you couldn't recall/gate, if a guild marched towards a war, another guild (also marching only) could try to slip by. You would want to leave defenders behind if you were expecting a raid or counterattack, and because in this case it's simultaneous you can split up your soldiers anyway you wish. No need for mechanics above and beyond the "don't recall/gate" one, it would happen naturally.

I hope this is adopted, it's really an easy system to open up all sorts of potential for RP and tactics, so long as the guilds agree to honor the recall/gate restriction. Think of the tactics, scouts would be needed, troops would move in columns, can setup at defensible points (say a moongate), ambushes, delay in reinforcements, etc. If someone logs in, they will need to recall to a HQ (any officially recognized land or building where a guild has a presence) and then hoof it from there. Combine that with the one-death rule for battles and RPvP could be much more intriguing and rewarding.
