This eve I learned much more about the Ebon Skull than I ever dreamed possible. As the sun set, Vrae'il entered my study in the Moonglow Lycaeum, A most serious expression stretched across his face, More serious than usual at least.
"Admoreth, It is time." He spoke softly as he looked to the north.
It was no mystery as to what he reffered to. Caina, Former sanctum of the fallen Order awaited. I agreed, We have sat idle in this school for aspirant arcanist for far too long. "Aye, Let us be off." I spoke, Grabbing my sceptre.
We travelled to a peninsula further north where a small ferry and a ferryman had been waiting. The ferryman was a rather pathetic looking male. Stout of frame with a thick, unclean beard, he chuckled cheerily as he asked us where we wished to go.
"The isle to the North, We will leave immediately." I spoke sharply.
The ferryman's face fell into an unfathomable terror, Perhaps more than that. Countless times he asked if we were sure that was our location, Growing impatient I snapped coldly at him, Compelling him to take us to the island we sought.
As the boat drifted closer to the island, I felt a cold pain in my chest. Perhaps it was only the chilled air, But this was far more than any cool breeze could do. I gritted my teeth and looked ahead to the snowy caps that grew closer as minutes passed, Eventually ariving at the shores of Caina.
Vrae'il and I stepped off the boat, Motioning for the ferryman to leave. The wind was whipping violently against my cape, It felt like sharp daggers as small bits of hail bounced off of my face. The weather seemed determined to hold us back, But we were twice as determined to press forward to grasp what we sought. We hiked to the northern most point, The pain in my chest growing stronger. I attempted to hide my discomfort from Vrae'il, And I believe I may have succeeded. Though he may have been more concerned with our goal than he would be with me.
Our hike ended at a small cave, One which eminated a powerful energy that seemed to leak from the cave into the air, As blood would do from an open wound into a tourniquet.
"Perhaps this is the Well of Souls we read so much about, Admoreth." Vrae'il spoke coldly, Examining the cave.
I nodded once, Now a bit more relaxed. The energy was one I had never felt before. It beckoned, Corrupted, and caused pain all at once. It was here that I knew we were at the former focal point of entropy in these lands called "Sosaria".
We left the cave, And travelled a bit south to a large building. Vrae'il forced open the doors that were caked in ice, And we walked in accordingly.
"..A school?" I asked, quirking a brow.
"Perhaps this is the Scholomace we have heard about." Vrae'il said, As we both walked towards the stairs. Once up above, We saw there was quite a bit of ground to cover. We headed in different directions, And this was the last I saw of him for a few hours. I read books that detailed in large quantities of battles, magics, and services to Oblivion. I was overwhelmed by all of the books, But something in me urged me to keep reading. So much was detailed, Others seemed to have a loose end.
Hours passed, And I met with Vrae'il in the same room the we parted ways. He claimed that there were multiple Liches, Greater in comparison to those that are found dabbling in graveyards commanding weaker forms of the undead. These were grand Liches, Centuries old it seemed.
"By the way.." I spoke to Vrae'il, catching his attention. "I came across one who wishes us to aid his wife." I stopped, raising the brim of my hat so our eyes would meet. "She is tainted by Oblivion, and the husband seeks those adept in darker arcane to research her. Of course, I accepted."
"Well, Who are they?" Vrae'il asked, a bit interested.
"They are known as Martin and Molly Willow." I spoke with a light laugh.
Vrae'il nodded. "So be it, We may need to dispose of her when we are through. Let us return to Moonglow."
I nodded, and we did as Vrae'il suggested.
Deep into the night I write this, Still hearing the black energies of Dagger Isle calling to me. I now know one thing for certain after this night: I must understand and control such a power, and nothing shall stop me from attaining the glories of Oblivion. |
