Farewells:
Dan looked down at the last thing to do on his list, and frowned. It had been awhile since he had talked to anyone, or done anything with his fellow Minstrels for quite sometime. Mostly because he was investigating during the dark of night, for his beloved half-sister, Danie. He had only begun his search before Christmas when he had discovered what had happened to her... on Christmas Eve...
It was a dark winter night, as the winter snow was slowly setting into the ground. Moonglow was looking as magical as ever, but with empty streets and silent surroundings, it also felt quite ominous. Dan had just left the Garden, with his scarlet blood robe and scarf to cover him up. His black bandana was strapped upon his head as always, over his dark, forest green hair. As he headed towards his only lead, he could hear nothing from the forests aside him down the path. Perfect silence always made him uneasy. As he made his way, eventually cut off the path and stood before the "White Tower". As he looked up upon this magic building, he could feel the magic inside.
He stepped up to the doors, and lifted the knocker, from which gave off a loud echo around him. Upon the third knock, the stone doors slowly opened up for him, and from the inside burst the warm air of the torches lit. Someone had to be home, and as Dan raised a brow in curiousity, he clutched his sheath hidden in his robe, and stepped inside. The doors shut behind him, and what from what he could see, he had stepped into a great hall. The torches along the walls were lit up, which shined the shimmering torchlight down onto the great table before him. Many chairs were aligned under it, from which at the end, a gray corpse in mage's clothing was lying at the end. "Danie!" yelled Dan, and he rushed over to her end to identify her. Alas, her normal, tan skin had now vanished into a pale, white. The color of her hair, which she had dyed it to match Dan's out of admiration, had also turned snow white.
He slowly laid his hand onto Danie's cheek, with felt of nothing but as cold as the winter snow from outside the walls. With a spare fist, and a heart of anguish, he slammed it into the wall behind him. Breathing hard, but lightening, his anger turned to tears, and he slumbed over the table and wept for her death. "Why...why...WHY?!" he screamed to himself, clinching his fists and teeth with anger...
...but when he finished, he had nothing left of him inside. All he could tell feel was remorse for what had happened, when suddenly he noticed something. As he squinted his, he moved his hand over her forehead and closed his eyes. As he felt, he then realized that she hadn't been killed!
...her soul had been removed...
After realizing this, he stood up in shock, but regained his calm. Many questions were now fluttering in his mind. "Who would do this?" "How was this done?", but most importantly "Why Danie?". He looked back up, with a glare of motivation in his eye. He had to find out who had done this, and he had to find Danie's soul as well, no matter the cost. As he realized his goal, he looked back to her corpsek, and slowly leaned down to whisper in her ear. "Don't worry sis, big bro will save ya". He then unsheathed his favorite kryss, which he had personally blessed himself, upon his torso. He moved her hands to hold it over her, and smiled. "Don't worry Danie, Silversting will protect you..."
With that, he knew what must be done, and set out of the White Tower and into the cold winter's night.
"Sigh, I hope I'm doing the right thing" Dan muttered to himself. With that, he took off his Minstrel Vest which had been given to him by Cat, heaved up his pack of things across his shoulder, and put a small parchment upon his vest reading "Farewell". |

It was bloody cold.
Valentine wrapped his cloak around him. He was used to cold, but this was chilling even him. Then again, he had been out all day. And he had forgotten to eat. Or drink.
"Note to self: Don't eat snow before nightfall." He muttered. He stepped out the shelter of the trees to the path that ran along Moonglow's shore. A slight shape in the moons' light.
"Huh. He looked familiar..." Valentine began following the man, to the shimmering silver stonework of the White Tower. Lurking around the corner, he heard the man go inside.
"Danie!" came a yell. "That sounded like... Dan?" he mused. He strained to hear more, but nothing came but muffled talking. Soon, he heard the door close and feet crunching on the snow. Val blended himself in the shadows, thankful Dan hadn't noticed his footprints in the snow.
"Have to be more careful next time..." he muttered as he entered the building after Dan had left. The sight took his breath away. The girl lying there... she was beautiful. Her lovely pale skin, beautiful white hair. Krolczyk ran his hand along her cheek, and tears welled in his eyes. She was no Katarzyna... but lovely just the same. And she wasn't dead, her flesh was still warm.
Valentine slid his arms under her, and lifted her up. She wasn't heavy, she wore light clothing... he worried about the cold as he carried her outside, the kryss she held remaining firmly in her grip... shivering off the cold, he headed for the Moongate, mind set on an abandoned gypsy camp north of Trinsic... |

Skye sat in the Poet's Garden, a slightly crumpled bit of parchment in his hand and a small tear forming in his eye. Steel knew he never wept anymore, he hadn't in over thirteen years. But tonight was different.
The slip of parchment had come by pigeon, a small swift one at that. Easily recognizable. On it was scrawled a short, brisk message, simple and to the point. Dan's intentions were clear to him now, as Steel felt the singeing burn of a tear rolling down his cheek. He looked up to the heavens knowing that his stubborn friend was not to be halted in his plans. He made the sign of a cross, whispered a prayer, and looked out into the forests.
"Godspeed, Dan." _________________ |
