Mallory got home from her evening with Vaen and went to the office area and pulled out a parchment and began writing...
Dear Rryn,
I haven't seen you since your wedding. I hope all is well with you and Tai. I am so very happy for the both of you. I have a slight dilemma and was hoping that perhaps you could help me with it. I do not wish to talk about it in a letter, but in person. Please let me know when it would be a good time for us to have a heart to heart as sisters do. I fear that I have come to a crossroads and I am not sure which way to turn. I could very much use your advice.
Love,
Mallory
PS. I am not in trouble, so do not worry yourself!
Mallory sent it with a messenger with directions to Rryn and Tai's residence. She hoped that it would not be long until she could talk to her dearest friend.
She quickly took out another parchment and began writing
To Lord Majere of the Legion of Justice,
Dear sir,
I do hope that it is not forward of me to write to you. I am thankful for your friendship in the past and I hope that you will be able to help me now as well. Please come to the Garden when you are able so we may speak about a very important matter.
May the Virtues protect and guide you,
Mallory Rowdep
After she finished writing she asked the young lad tending the horses in the stable if he would like to earn a few cookies and gold coins. He nodded eagerly, and she sent the letter with him to the Legion Island for Leshok Majere.
Now there was only one final letter to write. She took out a final piece of parchment and carefully began writing...
Dearest Vaen,
I hope that this letter finds you well. I wanted to write and thank you for a most enjoyable evening. I hope that we have many more such evenings together.
All My Love,
Mallory
This letter she tied with a soft pink ribbon and kissed the letter softly. The tavern was empty, so she left it in the messenger's box with a note to deliver it to Vaen Swiftar of the Legion of Justice. With a smile she took herself upstairs and went to bed to dream... _________________ Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them but you always know they are there...

Rynn woke up to a tapping sound at the sliding door to their room at her families estate. She glanced at her sleeping husband and quietly slid from the futon so as not to disturb him. Quickly throwing on her dressing gown she slid the panel door open and left the room to speak with Dellan, the butler. He informed her that a messenger had arrived for her and he had paid the lad . He handed her the rolled parchment. Rryn went back into her rooms and sat down opening the parchment to read the message. Smiling, she opened her stationary chest and withdrew parchment, ink and quill.
Mallory,
I hope this finds you well and peaceful. Tai and I are very happy and well. Of course I shall meet with you whenever you are available. We are usually in Zento, Tai with his many duties. We have been visiting the Garden in the late eves for a nightcap before returning home for nights rest. Perhaps you can join me for tea soon? I miss our talks.
Love,
Rryn
Rryn sprinkled some fine powder over the ink as she re-read her reply. Satisfied the ink had sufficiently dried she rolled it up neatly. As she began to put her supplies away she glanced back at the futon and laughed to see Tai was awake and watching her. Leaving the supplies where they lay, she walked back to the futon and back into her husband's waiting arms.
Several hours later Tai picked up the rolled parchment and headed to the kitchen. He handed the cook's apprentice the parchment and a few gold coins with orders to deliver it immediately to the Garden and to Mallory. Satisfied that the message would be safely delivered, he glanced at the tray to be sure all was as he had requested. Picking up the tray he headed back to their room to awaken Rryn for breakfast. |
