A dark skinned female grinned wickedly as she regarded the kneeling form of the male in the center of the room. "So, our Weapons Master returns to us in our hour of need. Your presence was most...helpful." She whispered as she paced in front of him. Stopping and lifting his chin to regard his crimson eyes she sneered, "And now you wish to return to this surface world you left us for?" The male drow locked eyes with her and regarded her cooly, answering only with a small smirk. "You alone slew 37 rival soldiers this day and still wish to return to the surface to prove your worth to yourself?" She asked incredulously. Again the male did nothing but gaze intently at his questioner. "Go then, my son, find your proof." She turned back as he moved silently toward the door and called after him, "Return to your rightful place soon Keldril, I have only so much patience."
Kel rubbed his temples as he fought to grasp his current situation. The events of the past few weeks had indeed been fruitful. He returned to his homeland to help successfully defend his family against a rival drow house. He had even bested the attacking house's weapon's master in the battle. His return to the surface was not so fruitful.
Immediately upon returning to his keep, Kel sensed there was something wrong. He deposited his armor and weapons in the practice arena and made his way upstairs. Ishtar was there waiting for him. That was not unusual, she had begun using his bed more and more frequently as their relationship blossomed, but he could tell something was not quite right. It was clear by the state of the room and the pale, exhausted look of her face that she had been severely ill of late. Kel made sure she was alright, straightened things up a bit and escorted her home. He could only imagine the wrath he would endure if the queen, Ishtar's sister, found out how she had spent the past few weeks.
Now he sat alone with his guilt. Not guilt for the many lives he ended during his journey back to his homeland but guilt for leaving Ishtar in such a vulnerable position. He was absent in her hour of need so that he could come to his family's aid. It was clear now that he had made the wrong choice. He loved Ishtar more than he could ever care for his family. To his mother, Kel was a weapon to be thrust where she pointed. Ishtar loved him, simply loved him. Never again would he leave if it meant possible harm to her.
Keldril smirked as he cast his memory back again over the past few weeks. "My first visit home since coming to the surface was fun though." He chuckled as he grabbed his cloak and made for the door. "Perhaps Ishtar is well enough to take a walk beneath the stars." |

After being escorted home her head was filled with unanswered questions..."Where did Kel go off too without notice? Why would he not say anything? How did he get the fresh wounds she saw?
All these questions rolling through her head as she sat on her balcony sipping some herbal tea. In her mind she knew he loved her, but she was concerned. "Should she tell him how ill she was while he was gone? Or about her vision of Jode?" she thought to herself, "Maybe in time, I was not sure if it even was Jode."
Taking the last sip from her cup she stared at the moonlit sky. The night sky was serenly beautiful. She wished Kel was here to share it, but she did not want to push that journey while still recovering. Her illness made her weak still. She closed her eyes and let her mind drift.
"You sense me don't you Ishtar?", a voice echoed in her head, "Oh yes you do."
She opened her eyes. She knew the voice in her head and it was indeed Jode. She also realized where it is coming from, surprised she ran back into the house to start studying tomes. This coexistance is not good especially for long and now she had to figure out a way to reverse it and quickly... |

The spirit of Jode Bonewits closed his eyes with a smug grin as he could feel her tension from his latest personal thoughts. "Minds entwined indeed...", he grinned, and with that he rose up from his kneel.
In front of Jode Bonewits, within Ishtar's personal mental realm, was an orb where from which he could see what her own eyes saw in the physical realm, but if only that. Somewhere in this place, or so he suspected, should remain a another dormant orb which should be channeling her thoughts, and that itself was perhaps the main goal in his developing plan within her mind. "What are you thinking...my dear Ishtar...", he muttered to himself, and with that he strode off a few steps to look around at the now changing colors around him due to her sudden swing of terror from what he had spoken to her. A warm red...shifting to a rather timid blue...and now a terrible purple. "All these colors, these mood swings, would only make sense if I could tell what you are thinking.", he said to himself, where afterwhich he paused for a moment to observe the shifting psyionics within her. In what seemed like an long moment, he turned once more to the orb which gave him her sight, and noticed that it had changed towards something more immediate and more urgent. He saw that she was flipping pages rapidly in a tome, searching for something, but what?
...but what?
Jode glared down upon the orb with his own ideas locked away in his mind. In about a minute though, a theory finally surfaced and it alone grew a grin out across Jode's face.
"Coming to greet me, are you Ishtar?" _________________ AKA: Dan |

Hours later she awoke, she realized she fell asleep at her desk among the tomes she was searching through. As she straightened and stood up a black tome hit the floor with a "thump". She regarded it and carefully picked it up and sat back down. Gently she opened the ancient text, turning the old linen pages carefully as she read the faded hieroglyphics...
A smile came to her lips as she found something she felt would help her at least communicate with the spirit swirling in her head. It would at least give him more of a voice, but still protect her from the dangers of being merged. At least it would allow her more time until she can separate Jode from herself...she rubbed her temples. Too much to do, so much to worry about.
She gracefully stood up and walked to the arcane circle and sat down on the pillow in the center of it. Closing her eyes she focused her energies and because to chant old spells to protect her mind and her soul...
It is I, I who have come forth from the waters, which let themselves inundate me. They have mastery there, in the form of the river.
Over and over she repeated the incantation until she could feel the energies pass through her and new now after she had the proper components she could prepare the next spell.
"Jode? I hope you are all right caught in the nether realm...",she knew he could hear her. His presence was there. She could almost see him smile. The question is would he answer or speak to her more now? Time will tell.
Now that she felt more rejuvenated she packed some things, she decided she should spend time with Kel. As a surprise she had the cook make one of her favorite sweets. She opened the door from her room and found the carefully wrapped sweets left on the table still warm. The scent of honey and cinnamon filled her nose as she carefully placed the parcel of treats in her pack. She checked all of her things as she made her way downstairs and then outside. She nodded to the Lady Medjie as she summoned her mount and headed out into the dusk to the keep...
As she made her way she felt as if being watched...was she being followed? She stopped a moment listening to the calm around her. No footsteps or the sound of hooves. She nudged her horse to walk forward and felt the sensation again. Closing her eyes and refocusing the feeling went away...
"Wait! Jode can you see what I see?" she whispered to the cool air. She waited...and sensed him smiling again. "It appears you can then", she whispered to herself so he could hear. She smiled to herself, now she was getting more comfortable with his presence and continied on her way... |
