Standing in front of the house she hadn’t seen in years, her eyes immediately welled up with tears. It was exactly the way she remembered. Standing there, she was almost timid to return to her own haven. She stood there with her arms crossed over her chest so tight she was surprised that she could still breathe.
The door that had been left ajar upon her departure was closed. Thank goodness. She thought. Then Alonwynn Pondered, what else can be taken from me? I worry about such trivial things as the safety of material possessions! Shaking her head, she advanced inside her house. She silently chided herself. Narcissa was right, I am a naive fool. So trusting, and look where it has gotten me! I wished for a peaceful life with trusted friends and I got dishonest betrayers making my life chaotic.
Looking around her house, she noticed that the inside was the same as the outside. Just as she left it, save for the cobwebs that hung about from her negligence. She saw a chair sitting over in the kitchen. Just sitting there waiting for someone to sit upon it. Walking over to the chair she first reached out her hand to feel the velvet of the seat cushion, just to be sure it wasn’t a mirage. The kitchen was set for a meeting of sorts. Alonwynn racked her brain to remember what her plans were the day she was taken. Two saucers, a kettle and two teacups. Yes, I remember now. I was to have tea with Wisteria. Sitting down in the chair, her hood fell to her shoulders as she took the tea cup into her hands. Tears fell from her eyes as she examined the intricate detail. As she set the cup back on the lacy table top. She brought her hands to her face and began to sob. Wisty, I miss you so much. I miss all my friends so much. Years have passed now. Would they remember me? She wondered Her sobs turned to silent hiccups.
What are you crying about? You are free, woman! Go and find them, her mind encouraged With that Alonwynn smiled and said, “What am I waiting for?” She stood from her seat and looked directly at the ghastly face staring back at her in the mirror that was hanging on the wall opposite her.
How could I have forgotten? She fell back in to her despair and replaced her hood atop her head.
The sound of galloping hooves stilled the heart in her chest. The creatures began the Neigh incessantly. She went to the stable where she had kept her steed. Expecting the stable to be empty, the sight of the two beasts was overwhelming. The accessory look in Reapers face simply stated Where have you been all this time! For Reaper didn’t expect to see Alonwynn anymore than she expected to see him. What in the world? How did he know I was here now? She wondered. She saw the letter attached to the other mare’s reigns. With script so precise she knew who the letter was from.
The letter was so much shorter than she was hoping for. She folded the note up and placed it into her robes, Grave matters? Given Alonwynn’s current state, she couldn’t have found Wisteria’s plea for her own help ironic. Grave indeed! After assuring Reaper she would return in a moments time, she ventured back into the house. She located a quill, some paper and her sealer. Of course, why didn’t I think of it before. The druids surely can help me!! If not, then the at least can put me to a final rest. Moving the teacups on the table aside she began to write.
Wisty,
You cannot imagine how I have missed everyone so. Much has happened. Where can we meet to see each other? I am...Alonwynn paused for the most appropriate word... anxious to see you all. I cannot believe so much time has passed, and yet you write as if it were only yesterday I saw you last. You must tell me of these ghastly matters upon our meeting. I too have such grave matters to discuss with everyone. I am not sure what help I can be, but I know I must try.
Sincerely,
Alonwynn
She folded the letter and placed it where the previous letter resided. She watched the mare gallop away. As she patted Reapers nose, her hand began to turn grey and peel. Reaper didn’t seem to notice as he encouraged the contact. She tightly closed her eyes to make it go away and to her dismay Alonwynn looked at her still decaying hand. She prayed her letter would reach Wisty soon. She wasn’t sure how much more of this she could take |

Wisteria awoke screaming. She could not control the nightmares in her head. Once more she had seen Maelwyn fall and her mind had twisted as she saw it, and she stood over her mothers deathbed in the next heartbeat as blood soaked up her gown. She longed to be at sea again, she had felt so peaceful, so calm, staring out at the ocean as it rocked her gently.
Coward she said to no one, you wish to flee again? Look how things have worsened, your sisters evilness left unchecked...
Wisteria took deep breaths to calm her beating heart. She was so different now, a changed woman, no more shy and naive. She was stronger, her travels in the past year had demanded it.
It had been odd upon her return from traveling, Dory could not be found nor was Alon anywhere about, she hoped that her letter would be recieved.
As if on cue she heard the familiar whinny of Shadow and pulling a robe on her nakedness she rushed down the stairs and flung herself into a hug around his neck. He snorted in disapproval at her improper dress, as if he were a mother hen and Wisty laughed pulling the letter she noticed tied to his reigns....
Alonwynn had been gone? She shook her head, no wonder she had recieved no letters while away from her. She thought back to the day that she had left town they were suppose to have tea...but her mind had been so unstable she had left hurriedly barely able to cope.
She could tell by Alonwynns words that the woman was not herself and she shuddered. What had happened to her friend? An urgency grew within her.
Alonwynn,
My dear friend, I am sorry I didnt know you were gone...Due to the unstable nature of my mind I had fled to the arms of the ocean and have been traveling for some time now. My dear friend, forgive me for my cowardice, and not being here in your time of need. Please I would see you as soon as possible.
Much Love,
Wisty
She began to tear up and strode silently into the house. How could she have abandoned her friends so... _________________ Something is Wrong, I can still feel Existence... |
