With each candle lit, the soft glow of the room grew a bit. Each candle also generated an unusual aroma, one the man lighting them had not planned on when he bought them. While not unpleasant, it was certainly not the most appropriate smell for the Chamber of Virtue in Britain.
Lighting the last of the candles, the man, whom we shall call Budo as that was the guise he had taken that eve, walked to the center of the circle of candles he had placed. One candle burned on each of the six engravings representing the virtues, and Budo stood on the center engraving, that of Spirituality. Looking around at his work, Budo half grinned and sat down to wait. The woman he had contacted should be arriving sometime soon, or so he guessed. Without any real means to tell the time, for the sun had set already, Budo decided logic was the best course of action; he knew that it wasn’t time yet when he arrived, so if he waited long enough, the time to meet would surely come about.
To pass the time, Budo first drew a circle in the dust. This circle slowly grew into the head for a larger circle. Over a short time the larger circle grew arms and legs. A face appeared, and a dabble of hair was attempted, although Budo learned quickly that scribbling with dust doesn’t work at all. Moving to the base of the engraving, down a few steps, Budo then spent the better part of an hour picking away at the foundation of Spirituality. When the mortar failed to surrender to Budo’s finger, he rolled onto his back on the floor and stared at the ceiling of the building.
“I’ve never really looked at this before…” Budo spoke aloud to the room as he studied the ceiling. There appeared to be a man holding a sword and a chalice drawn on the ceiling. The man looked young, an appearance proven false thanks to the scare he bore on his left cheek. Before him was a large golden scale, and he seemed to be in the process of placing the two items on the weighing dishes. Budo noticed that each dish had an icon engraved on it, one bearing an open palm, the other a crook. On the base of the scales was an ankh. Opposite the young man was another man, this one obviously older, a long white beard and tuffs of hair on his head. In his hands he held what appeared to be a heart-shaped stone and a teardrop. He too seemed preoccupied with placing these items on the scales.
Budo blinked, and the ceiling was suddenly bare, its dark stone reflecting only the light from the candles surrounding Budo. Budo blinked a second time, but the ceiling refused to change again. Just to be sure he blinked a third, but without result. Letting out a frustrated huff, Budo pushed himself to his feet.
Snapping the index and thumb fingers of his right hand, a book appeared from nowhere. Writing quickly and angrily in it, he left it laying on the engraving of Spirituality. Snapping the fingers of his right hand again, first a cloak, then a bandana appeared from nowhere. Donning them, Budo stormed outside, kicking over the candle he had placed on Honesty as he passed. |

Molly arrived at her home to find a tattered note laying on the ground near the steps. She picked it up and read it raising a brow at the content. She turned it over taking a quill and ink from her pack. She uncorked the ink and wrote a quick note agreeing to meet with the person in Britain. She layed the note on the ground where she found it and went inside.
She wondered who this person was but a meeting in a public place seemed safe enough. She told Will about it and he said he would accompany her to the meeting.
As the time came near for the meeting she received a urgent call from one of her guild members. Will had not arrived either and she was not sure how to proceed. She could not leave the man in a dungeon without help so she chose to save her friend.
Upon arriving home she found another note. This one was not so pleasant. The original was quite mysterious but it was not angry as this one appeared to be. She once again pulled out her quill and ink. Uncorking it she dipped the quill and responded to the note leaving it again on the steps asking for a new time to meet. _________________ Grand Duchess Molly Kaldhel
