Keldril sat gloomily at the table of his study examining a roll of parchment.
My Dearest Love,
I must apologize for my absence both in body and mind this past week. There are numerous developments that have occupied my thoughts and my time and have taken my attention away from you. I do not ask you to understand or to forgive me for the seeming lack of caring that I have shown you lately. I only ask that you remember my words of love and know that I spoke true.
I would be pleased and grateful if you could find it in your heart to meet me at my keep tomorrow at a half past noon by the eastern sky. I would very much like to show you how much I have missed you and how sorry I am for my absence.
Please send a reply with this raven. He will find me.
Hopelessly Yours,
-Kel
He nodded in satisfaction as the words accurately conveyed his thoughts. He smiled to himself as he fastened his note to his raven's leg. "What will happen if she does not reply or does not show?" he wondered aloud. The raven cawed in response and flew off to find his mark. |

She sat working on translations at her desk, when she heard a rustling noise outside. She got up and stepped out on the balcony where she saw a raven with a note attached to its leg. Carefully she unrapped it and red it. "Hmmm, she thought to herself. Should I go?"
She gently brought the raven inside and sat him on her desk. She took a seat and picked up an ibis feather quill. In her delicate script, she wrote a note on some papyrus scented with jasmine oils.
My Dearest Kel,
I will meet you tomorrow. I do hope this gesture is sincere. I know you have been distracted as of late. I do not wish to know why, just that your feelings remain true. I am looking forward to seeing you.
All of my love,
Ishtar
She carefully roled the note and attached it back on the leg of the raven. She stood back up and picked up the bird. As she made her way to the balcony she release it into the night sky and watched it fly away. |

Keldril squatted on the cold stone floor mopping the sweat from his brow, chest and shoulders. The evening's training exercise was an especially long and difficult one, as is usually the case when his mind is overworked. He stood slowly, considering practicing his forms again when a loud rustle came at him from the window.
"Ahh Shadow, my friend, you have returned. Have you a reply?" He asked, crossing toward the window quickly. He grabbed the parchment and read it hungerly.
He smiled to himself as he digested the contents of Ishtar's reply. "Tomorrow then, My Love." |
