The following is a report and letter, attached together, arriving at the RCL's offices.
==========================
Shihan,

I hope this letter finds you in good health. I discovered your name from one of my informants identifying you as Molly's most competant right-hand. I forward this letter to you in hopes that a reasonable man such as yourself whom is also trusted by Molly, will be able to help her make sense of this document.

When the Treefellow attacks first began and were identified, Umbra's Ministry of Science & Research began cataloguing and studying the remains of the Treefellows that had to be put down. Enclosed are our findings over the last several weeks. We've come to somewhat startling conclusions. Please forgive the grammatical structure of the paper as it was written by researchers in note form. I think it is clear the evidence is right in front of us, presented by men of science who hold no political affiliation.

I am certain the results will shock you, as they have me, and we can move forward together to return nature to its balance.

I await your words.

Respectfully,
~Bailos

RESEARCH DOCKET AB4-7984
"The Treefellow Incident"

Wherein on June 8th the first incident occured. Three farmers identified themselves to City Guard. Brought wagon with Treefellow. Treefellow corpse was taken into custody and examined by a medical team. Doctors determined that the sap volume inside the Treefellow was abnormally low for expectations of a creature of this structure and size. Fluid was extracted and examined. Results pending.

Wherein June 13th more corpses arrived. Three more Treefellows now. These four apparently in unprovoked attacks mark more this week than Umbrans have experienced in the last four years. Bodies were taken into custody and examined. Bark and internal composition is slightly different than previous Treefellow. Not sure if previous Treefellow was anomaly. All three new corpses are consistant in features. All exhibit same apparent lack of internal fluid that doctors expected. Fluid extracted. Tissue samples extracted.

Wherein June 14th the first results returned. The laboratory returned the first results on the June 8th incident. Sap was found to contain an unknown substance unmistakably foreign. The only identifiable component was Deadwood in a raw, unprocessed form. Research is going to consider this anomaly before getting back to us.

Wherein June 16th more bodies arrived. This time a farmer came into town towing a wagon carrying a hacked up Treefellow and his wife...both quite dead. Wife was examined first. Killed not by blunt force trauma as we expected, but by bloodloss. Woman suffered a concussion which was presumably the second blow as we do not anticipate that the Treefellow would have continued to attack had the first blow knocked her out. First blow landed a large slashing wound to the lower back. Wound was found to be full of a brittle bark-like material. Material will be sent for analysis. Preliminary findings indicate that the material may have prevented coagulation.

Wherein June 17th more results. All analysis is complete from more Treefellows. Corpses of the behemoths continues to arrive every day now. We are up to a body count of 28 Treefellows and 4 Umbrans dead. Approximately another dozen are injured and recovering. Bailos has sent out teams to assess property damage and begin repairs immediately. I urged him to consider a state of emergency.

Wherein June 21st startling results are returned. After preliminary medical examinations were made, materials and corpses were passed to the magical research team where they subjected the matter to all types of energies both benign and malignant, malevolent and benevolent. Materials responded in very interesting manners to necromantic stimulation. This concerns me.

Wherein June 26th a startling revelation hits. This is most perplexing. During further study of the material we thought was sap, we reverted to very simple chemical tests to see how the substance interacts with foreign materials. While sap is a known preservative, this sap goes above and beyond. We added a dead fish and allowed it to sit for a period of time. The fish was not only still in one piece, but began to move again independantly inside the sap after about 45 hours. The fish was removed, it slowly stopped moving after the substance was cleaned off. Took about 2 hours. Fish was examined. Body temperature was cold, internal organs had exhibited light amounts of decay which were probably stopped by the sap.

Term report: Term report due. With the material available to me, that we have had a chance to examine, it seems like these Treefellows exhibit characteristics of necromantic constructs in indeterminant origin.

Signed
Edwin Moorehouse,
Chief of Research
UMSR

There are two things in every soldier’s life that seems to come up in any conversation between Men-at-arms, bad tasting field rations and the amount of time away from your post and home. Shihan has been dealing with both and had only come back the night before from field exercises and staff training to attend the Regency meeting with the Duchess. He was hoping that the training scheduled for this day would go off with less problems then previous ones.

Walking into the office of the Royal Court of Light, Shihan let out a disturbed sigh. “Ok I need to appoint an administrator while I am away I guess.”

Looking round the small office he found piles of correspondence and several other things had been deposited onto the desk, seats, and floors. It had only been a weekend maneuver plus a couple of days. Digging through the pile he sorted and shuffled and piled. Several items caught his attention including an interesting letter from Umbra and Lord Bailos.

The read was interesting to say the least. Several things stood out as having similar characteristics of information already received.

Penning a quick note to Umbra and addressed to Lord Bailos Shihan wrote a official thank you letter and then gave the letter to the court scribe for copies and put it into a package for the Duchess and the Royal Court of Light Thursday meeting.

Giving the note to a messenger for delivery to the city of Umbra he went about putting the rest of the office and court into order. Thank the Virtues the Duchess has not been to the court and seen this mess, he thought.

"shihan-san, do you choose to block my entrance to this room?" and he stepped back and said, "Emperor, only a fool would fight you in a room this small."
