(posted for Edward as he cannot get an account set up on the boards for some reason)

Edward and Toreen had just announced their plans for marriage to everyone in the Kingdom of Sanctus. Their happiness and love shined brightly every time they were together. Edward, a sailor through and through, would take odd jobs sailing cargo so that he could give his beloved Toreen the fanciest wedding he could afford. He was approached one evening while in a tavern in Vesper, His heart was heavy without the love of his life by his side as the gentleman walked up to him asking if he would like a job sailing some exotic ores to Zento. Edward could not refuse the offer the gentleman had offered and so the deal was set. Edward quickly grabbed his bow and fishing pole and followed the gentleman out to the docks.

Edward rode off towards the nearest moongate as the cargo was being loaded onto his ship and made his way to the closest city to Toreen's home. He mounted his trusty llama and rode quickly to her. The two talked for a while and to his surprise she asked if she could sail with him. She had heard there were some beautiful places around the city where she thought they might get married at. Edward quickly agreed and helped her pack what she needed for the trip. They would be gone for a good while on this trip.

The young lovers sailed the heavily laiden ship onward hand and hand, not a worry in the world. About a week out from reaching mainland Zento, Toreen noticed the dark storm clouds rolling in the sky. Edward nodded as she pointed them out to him, he had seen them also. The concerned look on his face let her know it was going to be a very rough storm to weather through. Edward and Toreen braced for the worst as the waves began to crash violently over the deck. The pair struggled to keep the ship from crashing into some of the islands but unfortunately the sea had other plans for them.

The pair held each other tightly as the ocean forced their ship aground. Their only hope was to make it onto the shore and towards the few trees they could see through the blackened rain and wind. The pelting rain stung exposed flesh as the wind whipped it at the young couple. Trees bent and snapped like kindling as the pair made it to the stand of trees and behind a rock. Edward covered Toreen with his body to protect her as best he could from the storms onslaught. They could only hope the storm would be over soon...

The next morning the pair awoke to the sound of a parrot’s sqwak. The sky threatened to unleash more torment against them as they walked towards the shore. As the ship appeared, it looked like it had survived the storm rather better then they had expected, but this hope was short lived. The gaping hole in the hull and the cargo strewn across the beach made their hearts sink. They knew they had to get busy and collect whatever they could use to survive from the wrecked ship. Time was against them.
Edward cut what was left of the sails and laid it on the deck in two large pieces. Toreen grabbed some extra rope and an axe and tossed it in the center of the sails. Edward made for his cabin grabbing his sextant and spyglass, an old rusty hammer and whatever he could grab he thought they could use to survive. Quickly they tied up the sails and climbed down from the wrecked ship and gathered what they could find strewn across the shore. They headed back to their “hiding place” and began working on making themselves a better shelter for the night.
Night seemed to come quickly as the couple worked on their shelter. Edward looked out to the sea with his spyglass. As he scanned across the sea his jaw dropped as he spotted a swirling mass of water. He watched for a few moments as the swirling mass ripped across one of the smaller islands leaving nothing in it’s wake. Fear rushed across his face as he whispered a small prayer and put his spyglass away. Edward sparked a small fire with some flint and fanned it to flames and lit a torch. They looked into each others eyes with a look of knowing that they would be no hope of rescue for quite some time. The torch and fire’s light barely seemed to cut through the afternoons darkness as they raced time and the next storm.

The night sky cleared and the stars shined down brightly on their newly made shelter. Edward took out his sextant and checked the stars. Grabbing a piece of charred wood and scribbled the coordinates down onto a small piece of parchment. He smiled softly to his beloved Toreen and offered her a drink of rum to dull the pain of her wounded leg. While she was helping gather more items from the ship a rouge wave hit the side of the ship and sent her sideways into a jagged piece of wood. The wound was deep and put her unable to move much without aid of a crutch to walk with. Edward worried it would grow infected but he did all he could do to clean it and then with a hot blade of the axe burned it closed to stop the bleeding. She took a swig of the rum and passed out from the pain. He worried greatly about his wife to be.
Edward finished the bottle of rum and wrote a note under the coordinates he had written down earlier...

50o 27'N, 66o 30'W
Blown off course during storm. Massive damage to ship. Two survivors, One badly injured, Send help quickly!

...Edward corked the bottle and flung it as far as he could into the sea. He knew the chances of rescue was slim, but he had to try for both their sakes.

(The bottle is found in a net, but to late for a rescue team to be sent out as the storms are upon the city.. it would be several days before a team could be sent to find them... if they had survived.)

Lost in the Storm (part 2)

The sky grew menacingly darker as Edward and Toreen slowly ate the rabbit the Edward caught while out looking around for wood and food. The look of worry raced across his face as the winds screeched around the trees. Another bad storm was bearing down upon them. The couple barely made it under their makeshift shelter as the sky unleashed it’s torrent. The rain fell so hard it looked and felt as if it was raining upwards. Their sail shelter sagged under it’s weight as Edward watched the waves leap into the air and crash back down. Toreen and Edward held the piece of sailcloth they used as a blanket tightly around themselves.

A few of the remaining trees bent sideways in the wind. The sickening snap of one of the trunks filled the couples ears as they held each other tightly. Rain pelted the couple mercilessly, as the wind whipped them cruelly. Minutes seemed like hours as the storm raged around them. The makeshift shelter unable to protect them from the onslaught. Toreen lay heavy in his arms as she passed out from her wounds’ pain. Edward held her tenderly against his chest and watched the storm ravage the island. Would this be the end of them both he thought as he brushed some of her deep blue hair from her beautiful face. No he thought as he tightened his grip on the sailcloth blanket and Toreen, they would be fine, absolutely fine.

The scene of destruction was almost unbelievable to the pair as they untombed themselves from under their ‘blanket’ shell. The island, covered in debris and destruction, looked like a garbage dump had exploded. A little bit of everything seemed to litter the island and coast as Edward helped Toreen to her feet to view the devastated island they now called home. Edward chuckled slightly as he watched Toreen use her teeth to uncork a bottle of rum and take a deep swig of it’s contents. He knew her pain was great as he helped her sit on the rock nearby. He smiled lovingly at her and slowly walked out into the destruction. Maybe the storm had brought them something they could use to survive.

Edward gazed over the collection of items and things the storm had brought up from the depths of the sea. His eyes stopping suddenly in horror as the giant body of a sea serpent came into view. “By the gods...” he muttered in disbelief as he walked towards the creatures mangled body, “Well... we will be having serpent tonight I guess.” as he swung the axe into it’s flesh. The flesh gathered and wrapped in some palm leaf, Edward wandered around the island surveying the destruction. The crashing of something falling through the treetops above him made him look up. His scream of terror echoed across the island as the remains of somebody, entangled in some vines, stopped inches from his face. His heart raced from the scare, his eyes fixated on the eyes of the corpse. His paralyzing fear was finally broken as the cries of concern from his beloved Toreen echoed in his ears...

Edward knew their situation was grim, the rum was running out as was the water they had collected from the storm. Bugs of all sorts ravaged the couple as Edward finally had enough and lit a campfire. The heat of the fire grew intense as he added more and more pits of wood and other items tossed up from the sea. The rancid smoked burned his eyes as it entwined itself in his beard and hair. At least the bugs would be gone from them he thought as he tossed a green palm leaf onto the raging fire. His teary eyes looked over at his beloved Toreen as she lay shivering in fever and pain. He had to do something to get them rescued. Everything he could find that would burn he threw onto the fire. It’s flame danced wildly in the air as it’s smoke swirled and twisted in the breeze. Maybe some passing ship... no there would be no ships out during storms like these yet. Only a fool would be sailing he thought, but he had to hope. He watched his beloved sleeping under their makeshift shelter, he was surprised that it had survived the storm as well as it had. The sea serpent skin water bag he had hastily made seemed to empty quickly as their thirst grew, for once he wished for the rain to come again. Edward grabbed his trusty fishing pole and made his way to the nearby shore, they needed food as much as water. Into the water he waded up to his waist and cast out his line. There he stood in the cold blackened water alone, his ears drowning out the sounds of the waves crashing softly on the shore, incase she called for him.

The time seemed to pass slowly as he stood there fishing. Yet night fell over the water like a death shroud. The remains of the once grand fire twinkled a soft glow as it spiraled it’s way to it’s death. He must make it back to the shelter and Toreen, she would need him to tend to her and the fire. A rancid smell came across his nostrils as he headed back to camp, the body of the sea serpent had baked in the hot sun all day, and now it’s bloated corpse released it’s disgusting smell of death. “Tomorrow I shall start to make us a more proper home, since this seems to be where we shall remain for quite some time” he said softly to Toreen as he helped her to drink some water. They needed better protection from further storms then just their makeshift shelter, something to protect her from the cold wet rain so that she could get better.
