|
Mimus carried two letters in his beak flying speedily thru the sky. The first for Lady Narcissa,
Dearest Narcissa,
The fortune doll was more than I ever hoped for. Your work on this new prototype is outstanding! Truly a breakthrough in magical design. As you know the Duchess, Molly Willow, was given a Bride doll as a wedding gift, we decided to use your very first Fortune doll. This one was special of course, as everything was handmade on it by yourself, Xandria and I. Hence, fitting for a noble of her stature. I am surprised at the collectible nature the dolls have produced. I guess it is the slow in our production. Yet we can't cut corners on something so important can we?
Yours Truly,
Lady Nightshade
The second letter flapped in the wind as he clutched it tightly in his beak, having delivered the first, he sought out Lady Xandria. He was hopeful, sometimes she even had a rare snack about for him…
Dearest Xandria,
Narcissas Fortune doll having been gifted to the Duchess will prove an interesting test. Narcissa deserves our congratulation's in creating a doll that is completely lacking of suspicion yet holding the magical qualities we discussed. I wanted to update you on the status of our very first Charm doll, your masterpiece, as it were, is still in the hands of the young Aurelis Isk. It is my fervent desire that the doll will actually be useful in aiding the young child so I am working to meet Lady Angelique. The other charm doll we sent out well sadly it was destroyed by water, and the delivery man with it. Rainy days are not good for delivery on these dolls. As for my health doll, well I hold the first prototype still, I am waiting with it, for the right moment, the right request…..
Sincerely,
Lady Nightshade _________________ Something is Wrong, I can still feel Existence...

Xandria looked around her house, grinning. Her little slave had done such a good job at with stitching the gozas. She was staring in admiration when she heard a knock at the window. Looking over, she smiled, seeing Mimus with a letter in his mouth. She went to the door, letting the bird in. She quickly grabbed the letter, and read it thoroughly.

Nodding to herself, she went to a little present box and pulled out a kirin's brain, handing it to Mimus. She watched as he plucked through the brain, pulling pieces before swallowing. She went to her desk and composed a letter in return.
Dearest Shade,
I am curious to test the health doll. As you know, we haven't been able to test it correctly. I am worried that something might go wrong if we do not check to verify everything goes according to plan. Do find the right person soon, please. I want to see the results.
Regarding the charm doll that the delivery man had, well, we just learned we can not trust such things by courier. We did warn the man not to get the doll wet. Oh, and on another note. Please, do not forget to warn people about the water issue. You almost forgot to warn the duchess. Without a warning, the results could have been disastrous. Please do be careful next time.
Good luck with your meeting, dear Shade. And please be careful when handling Aurelis's doll.
With much affection,
Xandy
She wrapped the letter around Mimus's foot, then grinned, seeing he was only half done with the brain.
"It's alright, Mimus. You can take your time and finish that. When you are done, take the letter back to Shade." She smiled, and then turned suddenly back to the bird. "Oh, and do not let that spill off the table. Horrid mess." She shuddered at the thought, and then turned back to check on the slave and her new dress.

Coming home Narcissa saw a letter on her doorstep. A simple parchment baring her name as the only markings.
"Ah this is Nightshade's hand, Oh dear what have we done this time" She opened her letter and began to read as she was walking into the house.
"Cut Corners?" Is that wise, where could I possibly cut? Everything must have it's specific order! Narcissa thought as she began to tear out an empty page from the back of her diary
Dearest Nightshade,
I must admit that I had not anticipated my charms dolls to be popular enough to mass produce. But I must be careful about cutting corners as we do not want the overall effect of the doll to loose it's "Power". Though I believe that the incantation will be a faster process now that I am familiar with it. The ingredients should be easy enough to obtain. Perhaps more people in production would be useful. I shall let you know of any candidates I see. By the By did you inform the Duchess of it's capabilities upon delivery? I should hate for such a powerful doll not live to its full potential. I am sorry I wasn't there to see such a joyas event, but as you know I was under the weather. Even my diary page is blank from that day.
Regards,
Cissa
Narcissa folded the letter and sealed it with her marking. " Draco? Draco come here my pet" A few minutes past before snowy white ferret came bounding down her steps. As
"Dook, dook?" He asked Questioningly
"Take this to Nightshade, as Mimes wasn't kind enough to stay for my reply"
"Dook dook" He said with the utmost importance, and ran through the house looking for the door.
Narcissa took sighed and took pity on the ferret. She opened the door for him and said "This was Draco, I pray you have better luck finding Nightshade" as he scampered away. |

She opened her eyes still wrapped in his arms as the warm sun of the early morning peered through the window. It was going to be another hot one she thought. The days they had spent together in the quiet secluded desert home that was their hideout from the world were so pleasant. They would stay in the cool rooms on the first floor in the day and by evening the breeze picked up and the garden on the roof was wonderfully pleasant. They could watch the sun set and the moons rise over the Abyss. As the stars started to shine like pin pricks in a velvet black sky you could hardly tell where the abyss and the sky separated. If it were not for the far shore to the east you would nay be able to tell.
She lay there in his arms reminising about the past night. They were sipping tea in the pleasant silence of the late evening. The only sounds were an occasional scurrying of some creature through the sands below or the soft whisper of the breeze through the flowers in the garden. They spent much time smiling at each other not believing that the day had finally came. His hand on hers and soft kisses as they gazed into each other's eyes. As they looked at each other they knew without saying that it was time to start packing for the journey back to reality. They had just placed the wedding gift boxes in the trunk by the bed after looking through them briefly.
Gently she moved his hand to his side and softly kissed his sleeping face. A gentle smile came over his lips as he slept. She slid to the edge of the bed, dangling her feet over it exploring for her slippers. As she looked down when she could not find but one of them with her searching foot she spotted the doll. She wanted to fix him some breakfast so she picked it up and headed to the kitchen not wanting to disturb him.
She carried it with her inspecting it with a smile on her face. The wedding dress was exquisite and hand embroidered. She had never seen anything so lovely. She would have liked to have a dress herself that looked like that. She set it on the counter and could not keep her eyes off the lovely doll. It had red hair like hers. She found that very pleasing. A personal likeness to some degree. Noone had ever given her anything quite like it.
She was preparing some berries and cream and sliced up some banana bread that Rellis had left for them in the fruit cellar. The desert was far too hot to cook anything major and leaving it sitting out for long it would dry up or spoil very quickly. She had grown very fond of fixing his breakfast even though there were many offers from the servants to do it for her. She would bring him a tray with what she had gathered and would lay it on the bed just before waking him with a kiss. It made her feel she was doing something special just for him. A gift she could give him each morning to make his day more pleasant and they could share that private time before they began their required duties. It was these rare moments that she tried to preserve.
She arranged the items on the tray and placed a large pitcher of water on the tray as well. She picked it up and it wobbled. She looked at it and just beyond it was the doll. She quickly steadied it remembering that she should not get it wet. She sighed releaved that it didn't topple over. She put the tray back down and moved the doll to a safer place. She adjusted the dress and smoothed the hair and smiled at it.
She felt a little light headed momentarily and braced her hand on the counter next to the doll. Her mind wandered to their conversation the night before. She touched her abdomin for a moment and smiled softly wondering if her feelings were true about it. She thought to herself, a baby. It would make him so happy if she were she thought. All she wanted to do was to make him happy. So very happy as he had made her.
She picked up the doll and looked at the pretty face. She smiled and set it down again and retrieved the tray. As she looked back at the doll sitting there she spoke aloud. I wish I knew the future. I would love to see what our child will look like. She smiled softly and headed to the teleporter and disapeared to the next floor and again to the next to bring him his breakfast. _________________ Grand Duchess Molly Kaldhel
