As of late, Gwynevere had had much on her mind. This past week had produced so many changes. To her life and her many friends.
Just over a week ago she had met two men who had intrigued her. The one she recalled hearing of his past with Sanctus. Many did not speak well of him. The other a noble Lord close to the kingdom. She began to have unsettling feelings which at first she could not comprehend. Or was it she dared not? Was it fear she sensed? That would be the only word she could think to use. Although it was not often she felt it.
Many of her friends in Sanctus had noticed a change in her. Where she was normally all to eager to be out hunting and spending time with her many pets, as of late she did not seem to be in the mood. She began to find herself aimlessly wandering through Sanctus.
Maura had been the first to notice the changes. Gwynevere spoke with her of what she believed was a fear that confused yet excited her at the same time. Perhaps it was a premonition of something to come. But what? Maura had explained it seemed as if Gwyn was falling for someone. Gwyn quickly shook off the feeling. She needed no companion, she had her pets and they were faithful to her. Maura suggested she find these two men and see if the feeling changed. Gwyn agreed to this but had no intent on seeking out the ones Maura felt were responsible.
“Better left alone” she whispered to herself as she headed for home.
Passing the M’Real Castle, her ears twitched at a sound coming from inside. Trying to sneak past so as not to disturb anyone she quickly headed for home. Surprisingly when she arrived there was a dove sitting on the perch with one of her canaries. Curiously she walked to it and noticed a small piece of parchment attached to its leg with a small dark ribbon. Ever so tenderly, so as not to frighten the dove, she removed the ribbon and the parchment and read the note. It seemed she was being asked to visit at the M’Real Castle by Lord Marcus and Lord Varlan. She had recently met Lord Varlan and had been helping him as he trained against wild beasts. She knew Bloo would protect her and her friends if the creatures of the land got a little out of hand.
She smiled softly and once again felt the odd feeling overcome her. “Well mayhap Maura’s advice would come in useful. We shall see.” She smiled once again and left her home heading toward the M’Real complex.
Arriving there she found the Lords and Lady Serena sitting in the garden. They greeted her with smiles and Lord Marcus invited her to sit with them. She nervously took the only seat available, next to Lord Marcus. The Lords of the house were discussing the recent elections of Sanctus. She had been hunting when the results were announced so she listened quietly.
After a short time, Lord Varlan looked to her to thank her for the assistance she had given over the past few days. She smiled slightly and let him know no thanks were needed as she was just doing what she enjoyed…helping others.
As the night drew closer, Lord Varlan and Lady Serena retired to their home leaving Gwynevere and Lord Marcus to sit alone. As she spoke with him, the unease she had been feeling as of late begun to abate. She began to speak freely with him of her doubt in her abilities, and questioning if she truly were intended for a military. He told her of a man he once knew, who had felt quite similar, a fellow tamer who also practiced the arts of magery. He told of how this man once questioned his abilities, but trained hard with his pets to help him and had now become feared by many. She thought of the man on the dark steed she had recently met and furrowed her tiny brow slightly. She told Marcus she had seen a man fitting such as he described but the name she was having difficulty recalling.
Gwynevere grew weary as the night wore on. Noticing her tiredness, Marcus asked if she wished to stay the night in the castle as her home was still a bit of a distance. She thanked him for his kindness as he led her into the castle.
She curled into one of his soft chairs and closed her eyes and rested peacefully. The following morning she awoke early, and left the castle quietly so as not to disturb anyone. She would thank Lord Marcus later for his hospitality. The feeling of unease had somewhat vanished, for it no longer felt as fear. Now it was something new….
She kept herself preoccupied for the next couple of days, sure she would feel better. She had recently seen Lady Tika in the city and wished to return a tome she had borrowed a time before. She went to her home and retrieved the tome and started to make her way to see Lady Tika. Tika met her at the door and showed her down to the library. It was so nice seeing Tika again, she had missed her. After spending a few moments looking in the library for a new tome, Gwyn decided to head to the hostel for some quiet reading. At this time of day, surely there would be nary a person about to disturb her.
She had not gone far when she saw Lord Marcus and Lord James approach. Once again he invited her to come sit with them in the M’Real Castle. And yet again a tingling sensation crept into her. She so enjoyed the warmth and hospitality provided from the M’Real family.
Much later that evening Gwynevere and Marcus were once again left in the garden of the M’Real castle. Marcus reached for her hand and she took his, squeezing it gently. She was quite taken aback when he turned and smiled lovingly down at her. She returned his smile blushing slightly. Marcus seemed distracted, yet she did not question him. Marcus began to speak; asking if he were permitted to protect her from whatever dangers may arise and vowed to be loyal to her. She softly nodded her head, unable to speak lest words failed her. With that motion, Marcus stood from beside her, turned and knelt on one knee. Taking her tiny hand in his, he questioned whether she felt him worthy enough for her to be his bride. Gwynevere looked down at him smiling and replied very softly, “Yes .“
Finally she understood what had confused her so much in the past few days…. |
