The structure seemed cluttered with workers as Isk paced through the hall towards the Magincian artists at work on the latest piece of victory propaganda. The assembled painters were commemorating the latest Humanis victory over the drow forces in Minoc and their subject, a woman wearing classical drapery stood still holding the city deed scroll of Minoc over her head as a lion rested at her feet. Isk lifted his eyebrows as a tamer meticulously tried to keep the annoyed lion content and there was no doubt that the model was under more than a little stress.
“Magnate” one of the project supervisors, a freakishly tall and skinny man waved Isk closer stating “The personification of Magincia standing over the wild beast having tamed it.”
Following the man’s waving hand towards the posing woman and lion as three sketchers and painters sat on stools putting the image to paper Isk sensed the supervisor move into his personal space.
“Good, I am sure Mark Randerstill will be proud” Isk said in a rather monotone voice, somewhat disinterested by the official who seemed to be a close talker, speaking down to him from his unusual height at an uncomfortable closeness. An awkward silence soon followed as the model and lion were then appraised by their eyes.
“The Humanis army proved itself quite powerful thanks to the planning of Drake and the battle skills of our fanatics, it was flawless.” Isk said the words hoping to spark greater conversation in the supervisor who now plainly gawked at the model. Only the appearance of a frantic messenger gave the porcelain masked Magnate a reason to disengage from the situation.
“Isk! Isk!” The man was bold enough to ride his horse past the entrance way into the building, ducking to avoid the arch that made up the door frame.
“What is it?” Isk turned from the tall freak and addressed the messenger “what has happened?”
The man brought his horse to a stop and tossed a glance towards the model who retracted herself from the lion as the beast got up on all fours at the sight of the messenger’s horse.
“DOWN!” the tamer shouted and made a quick sitting gesture which the lion complied to after licking around his mouth, his orange-yellow mane shaking for a moment with evident excitement.
Taking the conversation outside the messenger was quick to explain that the drow have decided to not give up the city after losing the fight.
“Are you certain this is true?” Isk glanced up at the horse backed messenger, his green eyes intense.
“My lord, we have seen them moving about just hours after their defeat. They may be collecting their survivors for another stand.”
“The last thing I want is to have this become an extended campaign. Ride to Drake and Mark and inform them of this, I have been unable to locate our leader, perhaps he is with his wife.”
“I will do so!” the messenger reared his horse and looked to the direction of the moongate.
“Something tells me this is just the beginning of more frustrating times”
