After speaking with Lord Tai briefly at the bank in Zento, Lady Ishtar returned to the Palace briefly to pen a letter to the Empress. She took a seat at her desk and pulled out some papyrus and a quill and began to write:
Lady Rryn,
I know it has been some time since we spoke and I write you unfortunatley with solemn news. Lord Tai has bode me to pass on a message to you that your son with him has passed. It appears that Lord Poet has killed him as was told to me by Lord Tai. My house passes on it's deepest sympathy and we are here if you should need anything.
Your friend,
May the light of Ra give you hope,
Lady Ishtar
She slowly rolled the letter up and placed in a guilded box. She called for a messenger and bode him to send her letter to the empress with haste.

The young boy ran into the kitchen telling the cook he had a message for the Empress. Rryn turned around from the counter she was rolling sweetbread dough upon and grabbed for the moist towel to wipe her hands. Smiling to the boy she took the guilded box, recognizable as from the Temple of Ra. She saw him glance at the girls and wink before he ran out the door. She shared a grin with the cook seeing the girls huddle together, giggling and whispering.
" Oh to be young again .. " joked the cook which sent the girls into more fits of giggles.
" Get back to rolling those in the cinnamon" she laughed pointing at the dough the girls were rolling.
Opening the box she pulled out the parchment and began to read it.
" Iie. Iie this cannot be." she exclaimed reading the words upon the parchment.
The cook, seeing the drained color of her face and her expression, quickly shoo'd the girls out of the room against their protests.
" What is it ? Bad news?" she asked Rryn gently. Rryn just handed the parchment to the cook in shock.
They spoke for a short time about the news and what they needed to do. The cook went out to prepare the girls to be sent to the summer house and to have a messenger locate Lord Lee immediately and give him the letter. Rryn made her way to her private quarters to await Lee and to write to the Regent Lord Porthos, and Lord Ramses and his wife, Lady Wicked Rose as well as the leaders of several other clans that would need to know. She sent basically the same message and added to the letters to Lord Porthos and Lady Wicked Rose. She would need their advice now more then ever.
My good friends,
I have received disturbing news in the form of a message passed on to Lady Ishtar and Lord Ashigaru by Lord Tai. It appears my son has become deceased, his killer, Silent Poet. I am in need of your council as soon as possible so that I may be sure to handle the state affairs properly. Please send reply to our Malas pigeon , as for family privacy, I will be residing there with the girls, Lord Lee and his men. Lord Takumi and his men will continue the patrol of Zento and are available should you need them to contact us any other way.

Yours in service

As she rolled up the letters and placed her wax seal upon them, a light tap came from her outer door. She bade whomever it was to enter and turned to see Lord Lee and the messenger striding towards her. She handed the letters to the messenger and Lee ordered them sent immediately. The messenger bowed and went out the door, closing it behind him quickly. Turning, Lee gently picked her up from her seat and held her closely as she cried.

The Queen was finishing up some business for her husband when a messenger was allowed to enter the main hall. A servant came forward with the message that was brought. She paled reading the letter from her dear friend. She asked he stay while she prepared a response and instructed her servants to see if he needed refreshment while he waited. She asked for papyrus and quill and wrote back in her fluid script:
Lady Rryn,
I send my deepest sympathies with my letter to you. I do understand the delicate matter we have before us. My husband and I will be more than happy to lend any aid you wish. Please contact me when you are ready to discuss this further. May the light of Ra bless you.
Your friend, Lady Wicked Rose,
Queen of Ra
She carefully rolled her letter and sealed it then placed it in a gold message tube and had it given to the messenger. She let out a "sigh" and hoped that her message would bring comfort to her friend. _________________ "The ability to speak does not make you intelligent."

Rryn returned to the Malas stronghold after her visit with Lady WickedRose. Several days had past and she was feeling better now that things were set in order. As she entered she was informed the ladies were awaiting her in the tearoom and she bade her servant to let them know she would join them shortly. Walking into her study, she walked to her desk, opened the drawer and removed the key to the strongbox in which she kept her important papers. She removed the strongbox from its resting place and removed the old documents, replacing them with the new documents inside. She closed the lid and locked it back up. She put the strongbox back in its place and closed the doors to the armoire slowly. Turning to the old documents and picking them up, with a sigh, she slowly ripped them in half, then fourths, dropping them into the lit fireplace. Watching the paper as it burned and slowly turned to ash, she Permanently closed that chapter of her life.
Turning and smiling , she headed out of the room to have tea with the ladies...
A new chapter was upon her and there was much plannning to do. |
