With a frustrated growl, she viciously sweeps the work table with her arm, sending the vial racks toppling over the edge, plummeting to the cold slab stone floor. Glass tubes shatter like brittle candy, splashing their rich crimson contents across the tiles.
This latest failure of her blood to take to the newest mixture aggravated her. No matter what type she introduced, her parasitic blood consumed it, completely. So hungry was the nature of her blood that it could convert, with a single drop, a whole vial of non-vampiric blood.
Becoming a lich meant tying oneself to an object. This object could become one's greatest weakness, a massive vulnerability. Especially in the hands of an enemy. Ceinwyn ab'Arawn had great difficulty accepting such an obvious handicap, no matter the increased magical ability.
That had left her to consider other lifeforms and their flaws.
Elementals were often too weak to their environmental opposites. She was already inclined to cold, as it was. Also, they were simply essence, without much thought, other than to obey the nature of their form. Fire elementals sought to consume, to feed their flames, and so on.
The only other form that interested her was demon. Though she wanted to be very careful what type of abyss creature she chose for experiments. She had no desire to be like Deathwynd, a succubus, constantly distracted by her own desires. Nay, she wanted something with more focus.
Zeth's own experiments of late were of great interest to her. He was trying to create a hybrid of his own blood, but in another human. Even working with lycan blood it was not easy to splice different animal types together. Still, his latest success had intrigued her. Ceinwyn needed to discuss a few things with him.
There must be a common element in the transformation process, some key factor of the blood she was working with. She just had to isolate it, and add it to the blood of the fox. Then, her parasitic blood would not consume, instead it would be assimilated. She intended to keep experimenting until she created a blood type that would restore her from the curse. Then, no longer would there be the maintenance cost. |
