Doireann stared in amazement at the man before her. He spoke so darkly of something she believed in so strongly, of the struggle for balance, not just chaos and order, but also good and evil. She was still unsure how they had reached the subject, considering they had been speaking of virtues prior. She barely heard the woman next to him, Daeynaries something. Suddenly she watched her leave as he continued talking. She bit her lip, reflecting on the injury the woman bear as the she left.

She tilted her head to stare at the man again. “Very dark way to describe such beliefs,” she murmured, her mind still processing what she heard.

“Ah, but it is the truth,” Jovrick said, staring back unflinchingly. “Evil is really a point of view. What one person thinks is evil is what another man considers normal or good.”

Doireann waved her hands, stopping him. “Oh, I believe what you say; you just speak of it so darkly. I have always believed in what you speak of, just never heard it said so…” her voice faltered as she tried to find the word. She shrugged. “Dark.”

“What is light? Look at those around you. They would condemn a necromancer because he practices what he believes. Which is truly the good?”

Doireann nodded, not really agreeing as her mind wandered her eyes moving towards the caves where Daeynaries had left. “Did your friend leave you?”

Jovrick looked a little taken aback at the change of subject. She ignored his look, as she had seen it many times, and gestured towards the caves leading to Umbra.

He looked to where she gestured. “So she did.” He looked at her with determination, and continued the conversation where he left off. “Lord British’s wish to end the chaos and return the world to order truly proves his brilliance as he guilted the mass would follow him and his virtues.” So that’s how the subjects connect, she thought.

She stopped him, looking around at the multiple Sanctus soldiers around her. “Sir, I hate to stop you, but I am feeling uneasy at the moment. Blue amongst gold and black, or red and white, is not really safe.” She gestured to the multiple uniforms, from her simple Hakama-rubbish in Moonglow blue to the M’Real’s military uniform of red and white and the Sanctus gold and black clothing. He nodded in agreement. As she took his hand to wander off, she couldn’t help smiling to herself. She wondered if he knew how tenuous the cease-fire truly was. They walked towards the edge of the woods before stopping. He sat down on the grass, and she sat down, jumping and folding her legs under her as she landed.

He leaned forward, his hands on his haunches as he spoke. “He was brilliant, making zealots who killed all who were un-virtuous in their path. He was purifying the world of the evil, and would have slowly won.” Suddenly, Daeynaries before joined them. Doireann stared as she started to play with her locket, and then moved her eyes to the injured ear again in consternation. “Are you alright?” she asked, staring.

“Oh, I am fine, thank you,” she said, bringing her hair around her ear, trying to cover the injury. Doireann stared for a bit, trying to figure out how such an injury happened, then turned her attention back to Jovrick

She frowned, staring at him. “It is not possible. One virtue is missing.” She pictured in her head all the people who condemned their fellow man for erring, dying to the cause. She bit her lip, thinking, then stated while her mind was thinking. “Two are missing at least, if guilt is your motivator.”

Jovrick continued on. “Of course, there are those, but they will be killed in the end as well by the zealots.” Doireann shook her head, knowing he didn’t understand, but kept silent. Daeynaries slowly opened the locket and brought it to her nose, then began giggling before regaining control. A random thought breazed through Doireann's mind. That lady is weird.
Jovrick and Doireann continued debating, spiced with scornful words towards the citizens of Sanctus, when suddenly Daeynaries looked over at Dory, her eyes wandering. “You are beautiful, young. Don’t you want to live forever, stay beautiful forever?”

Doireann frowned at her, as she knew she was no beauty but a warrior. “I don’t care if I lose my beauty. I’m a warrior.” There were hushed words between Daeynaries and Jovrick, before Daeynaries spoke again.

“Do you want to be strong in battle, to never run out of stamina? Imagine being stronger, defeating your enemies with your strength, feeling less pain. Doesn’t that sound good?” Doireann’s mind suddenly went to her days as a slave.

“Are you a vampire?” she asked, feeling exhausted at the thought. “A vampire promised me the same thing at one point.” She contemplated the woman, waiting patiently. She had already rejected such a proposal from a few vampires already, so her mind was set on how to refuse.

“No, of course I am not.” Doireann covered her shock, her shoulders slowly releasing their tension. “I am speaking of heaven. This powder has the ability to make you stronger, faster and hardier against your enemies.” She looked at the locket with contemplation. She watched Daeynaries take a small amount on her pinky before inhaling it. Doireann wrinkled her nose, imagining all sorts of pain. Daeynaries stared at her clear eyed. “Heaven,” she breathed. Truly weird. “With this, you can defeat your enemies, every one of them.”

Suddenly intrigued, Doireann narrowed her eyes, and began questioning Daeynaries. Daeynaries kept coming with logical answers, most which centered on the ethics of the powder. “What is in the powder? Can it harm one? How hard does one hit with it?” The last had them searching the area, with Jovrick having consumed quite a bit of the powder, trying to find a vampire bat. Jovrick was to show his “wrestling” skills, proving so when a pixie attacked him, and he was forced to defend himself. Doireann frowned, seeing the poor pixie. Both Daeynaries and Jovrick were quick to reassure her they would bury the pixie. Doireann nodded, determined to be sure it happened before the nights end. She stared hard at Daeynaries for a while, contemplating what such strength could do for her militia. At the same time, her gut was telling her not to trust these two. Her mind raced, trying to decide how best to approach it.

“I will try some,” she said. If she tried it first, and it had some horrible effect or did something that could cause her team harm, she would warn them, and stop them from having taken any, and none of the recruits or officers would have to suffer as she did, keeping the army strong.

Daeynaries smiled, and told her take a small bit on her pinky before taking a sniff. Doireann looked at her hands, dirty and stained from fighting and running her hands through the grass. She wrinkled her nose at the idea, but wiped her hands on her pants, trying to make them as clean as possible. She took a small amount from the locket proffered onto her pinky nail. She took a small sniff.

Suddenly her world was spinning and her mind was losing its grasp on reality. Doireann fought against it, screaming as she held her head. She tried desperately to stop her mind from losing control when she started screaming. She barely heard the others as she fought desperately to hold onto her sanity when a voice whispered to her, “Stop fighting it.” She gave a silent sob and surrendered to the madness in her head.
