If you want help with -your- template, post here with what you want fine tuned, or if you want ideas to improve, or if you want me to suggest what you should get for items for your template, etc etc.
I've received a -lot- of ICQ's since I put up my template posts, and a lot of the questions are actually very similar. So it would be beneficial to others if the questions were posted here.
Not too sure I'll get many here, since I probably already answered a bulk of the questions. But if you want more help, post it here, and I'll do what I can. _________________

Dear Vaen:
My template, i thought was ok.. but heard tactics was a deadbeat skill that no one uses in pvp anymore. My current template is as follows:
120 macing
120 tactics
105s anatomry, (ate a 115 scroll for that)
102s necromancy, (ate a 115 scroll for that)
100 somethings Spirit speak, (ate a 115 scroll for that)
90s healing... (plan to eat as high a scroll as i can for that)
untimately planned on making them all 120.
I hear that the tactics is useless... I know i need to switch his template, but i like macing, because it is so him and because i was able to 120 it. I also wish to keep the necromancy and spirit speak as well.
I spoken to Lestat about this as well.. but he offered alot of choices, such as bushido, parry, resist or poisoning. not sure which one to take because there is so many to chose from..
Also, i need it to be a somewhat less than item dependant template, since rl cash and paypal seem like my only optioins of achieving such gear.
Sincerely:
a frustrated drow who does not want to keep being orc meat.
(sorry for making this look like a dear Jon letter template, i firgured i would do it to make people giggle) |

All right. So pretty much what you want is a necromancer pvp template.
I can give you a few options. I'll order them from least pvpable to most pvpable. The more pvpable it gets, though, the more suit heavy you will be, and the more difficult it will be to build it.
=====
120 Macing
120 Spirit Speak
110 Necromancy
100 anatomy
100 healing
100 parry
rest in meditation
Parry will help defend against those pesky dexxers, while you cast and bash away on those mages. Meditation will keep a steady flow to your mana. 120 spirit speak will give a good benefit to your spell damage, as well as healing
=====
=====
120 Macing
120 Spirit Speak
110 Necromancy
100 Healing
100 Anatomy
100 Resist
rest in meditation
Like the above, only you'll give mages a little more run for their money. Depends on your preference. If you kill mages easier, go for the anti-dexxer one above. If you have trouble with mages, go for this one.
=====
=====
120 Macing
120 Spirit Speak
120 Necromancy
120 Parry
120 Bushido
100+ meditation
This will be a hard template to play if you aren't used to having to stay alive in dire situations, but it definitely has its fruits. Evasion will be your key to staying alive, as you hit that button repeatedly, deflecting a LOT of incoming attacks. Make sure your dex is around 80 at least to benefit from this completely.
=====
=====
120 Macing
100 Necromancy
100 Spirit Speak
100 Healing
100 Anatomy
100 Meditation
80 Poisoning
I know. No macing weapons can poison. But there is a lovely thing called Use Best Weapon Skill. And if you run around deadly poisoning people, strangling them, bleeding them, then you become their worst nightmare. A very good template, imo.
=====
Now for the most powerful, yet hard to manage.
=====
120 Macing
120 Spirit Speak
115 Necromancy
110 Meditation
105 Chivalry
80 poisoning
50 Bushido (and more if your account age allows it)
This is a very utility-driven template. First off, you need to try to maintain a neutral level of karma if possible, otherwise you'll never be able to remove curse or cure poison with chivalry. Chivalry heals will also heal anywhere between 20-35 depending upon karma. Poisoning will be your best friend in this template, as I said in one of the suggestions above. 50 Bushido will let you nerve strike with a use best weapon skill bokuto, as well as being able to confidence on the run. 110 Meditation will not be enough; you will need atleast 8 mana regen on your suit, as well as 40 LMC.
This template is very doable, it just takes some getting used to.
=====
With all of these templates, get as much LMC and MR as possible, and try to have at least 2/4 casting.
Hope that helps! _________________

Here's what I was shooting for:
Anatomy 100
Bushido 110
Chivalry 90
Healing 100
Macing 110
Parry 110
Tactics 100
Currently:
Anatomy 110
Bushido 89.8
Chivalry 53.6
Healing 95.4
Macing 109
Parry 104.4
Tactics 108.8
Stats are 110/90/55
Current caps are all 110 for those skills.
What would you add or change about this template? What sort of tactics would you use playing a Bushido Paladin? |

For a Bushido Paladin mana regen and FC/FCR are very important. I would first drop Archery and add meditation, then gather a suit with high Mana Regen/Lower Mana Cost and had FC4/FCR6.
It is difficult to get FCR 4 on a Bushido user so you'll need an Orny, a weapon with FC1 and a ring with FC1 since you cannot use a shield. If you don't have the orny, FC3 works but the difference between FC3 and FC4 is significant.
Keep in mind this type of character isn't a damage dealer, it is a survivor. Between evasion, confidence, almost instant cast close wounds and cleanse by fire it is VERY hard for someone to kill you, but your DPS is not very high. For a macer you can try armor ignore spam to get kills, but with low swing speed and the inability to use UBWS weapons (since Bushido dosen't recognize them) your best bet is mortal wound. My method of killing with basically that exact template is using a hammer pick I get 2 hits in, divine fury, hit again, mortal wound and then spam armor ignore. If you want to play a fast paced, kills quick character this isn't the template for it... If you want to survive like Neo from the Matrix, it is the template for you. _________________

Anatomy 100
Bushido 110
Chivalry 90
Healing 100
Macing 110
Parry 110
Tactics 100
Hrmmm, all right. I'm going to give you 2 options. One geared for PvM, another geared for PvP.
PvM:
Macing 120 (changed)
Bushido 110
Parry 110
Anatomy 100
Healing 100
Tactics 100
Chivalry 80 (changed)
Pretty basic setup. You're going to want to outfit yourself with Damage Increase (MAX), Lower Mana Cost (MAX), and Mana Regen (as much as you can). You have no way of regenerating mana on this template, so a mana leech weapon is also needed.
PvP:
Macing 120
Bushido 115
Parry 110
Chivalry 105
Anatomy 100
Healing 100
Meditation 70
As many have said, tactics is worthless in pvp. This is a heavy mana reliant template. You go 105 chivalry so you never fail holy light, and you can hold that button down when you're fighting a mage to constantly disrupt his casting. I would recommend ATLEAST 3/4 casting. Do not go below that. Also, if you're fighting a mage, your second best friend will be evasion. Needless to say, mages are going to hate you, and want to run at the sight of you. Again, get your LMC maxed, and get some mana regen. This time, don't worry about damage increase, and focus on getting Hit Chance so you can make use of your specials.
Now if you can't find scrolls to go higher than 110, adjust as you see fit. And remember, evasion will be your friend on either template. Lightning strike will be more effective on the first. Holy Light is a definite advantage on the second. _________________

Quote: | As many have said, tactics is worthless in pvp. |
Tactics is rarely useful, I keep it on my template due to RP consistency, and to achieve maximum armor ignore damage, other then that, the points would probably be spent better elsewhere.
For example, I'll show you the math, using three different weapon types, a dagger, a hammer pick, and a crossbow.
The exact equations are very complicated, so I will use simple values set as defaults to simulate "real world" use. The following are the default values: Anatomy - 100, Dmg Inc- 50%, Strength - 100, Tactics - 120
Dagger (With Tactics): (Base Damage: 10-11) - 32-35 damage versus 0 resists. 9-10 damage versus 70 resist
Dagger (Without Tactics): (Base Damage: 10-11) - 24-26 damage versus 0 resists. 7-8 versus 70 resist.
The difference between 120 and 0 is 2 damage for the dagger.
Hammer Pick (With Tactics): (Base Damage: 15-17) - 48-54 damage versus 0 resists. 14-16 damage versus 70 resist
Hammer Pick (Without Tactics): (Base Damage: 15-17) - 36-40 damage versus 0 resists. 11-12 versus 70 resist.
The difference between 120 and 0 is 3-4 damage for the Hammer Pick.
Crossbow (With Tactics AND 100% Dmg Inc): (Base Damage: 18-22) - 66-81 damage versus 0 resists. 19-24 damage versus 70 resist. (Optional test to show maximum output)
Crossbow (With Tactics): (Base Damage: 18-22) - 57-70 damage versus 0 resists. 17-21 versus 70 resist.
Crossbow (Without Tactics): (Base Damage: 18-22) - 43-52 damage versus 0 resists. 12-15 versus 70 resist.
The difference between 120 and 0 is 5-6 damage for the Crossbow.
After seeing this, unless I was using a VERY high damage output weapon, the trade off of 120 skill points would not be worth the expenditure, especially considering the alternatives such as meditation, or additional support skills that could add much higher damage output numbers in themselves. _________________ "There are those who dream to escape reality, and there are those who dream to change it." |

Keep in mind also, that there is a PvP damage cap of 35. Atleast I think there still is. _________________

So that number you see on your life bar when you double click it, only entails what you do to monsters? The Dev team should upgrade the bar to show the damage it does to both a player and monster. |

X'eros, that is your damage to anything with 0 resists. Resists from there lower it a percentage. If I can do 55-60 damage with an axe as the damage shown on my stat bar, I do 70% less than that against someone with 70 resists. So no, it applies to both players and monsters. I don't know Vaen, I've done more than 35 damage to a player before, but my AI's never do more than 35 damage. So I'm confused on that. In regards to the Paladin/Bushido template. I have one of those. Drop tactics and take meditation. Keeps me alive beter than anything I've ever seen, but as Beleth said, I can only get kills spamming AI and holy light. |

Hi Vaen so glad you did this post!
Okay here is my question,
I have the typical PalyDexxor, and I have a few questions....
1. I have my dex up at 142 at the moment, is this doing me any good or should I put more of it back into my strength which at the moment is at 86, (thats not hitpoints that is well over 100) Does the lower strength affect anything other than my ability to carry items and wear certain armours?
2. I am debating on adding magic resist or poisoning to my template, which do you think would be more benificial? I have 120 parry at the moment, and 120 swords, as well as the other ussuals of healing, anatomy, chiv, focus. Any suggestions on this?
3. My suit is currently 45 dci and 40 hci, with two faster cast, I have tried and tried to get it higher in hci but the resists are very hard to work out. Do you think I can get away with the 40 hci and not be max? I am trying to keep my seven mana regen and 36 lmc on my suit and have seen the difference in mana if I lower them to max myself in the other things.
Oh one more thing, when I fight I find that I ussually can keep myself alive, but have alot of trouble, finishing people, is this just a timing experience thing or would adding one of those two skills above, help me in this?
Thanks for your help!! _________________ May destiny guide you... |
