Ceinwyn ab'Arawn idly wondered if she would be forced to eventually silence Toren, for good. Once, she too had been a part of the cabal, she was familiar with their goals and ways. Cear wanted his following to grow, and she could understand that much. But, did he want it to grow so badly that he would admit children, mere babes? If so, it only confirmed her suspicion of his insanity.
This child was Umbran property. If Toren felt like insisting and trying to impose upon her will, she would be forced to go after him, herself. This baby was playing with Audrina's mind. The woman probably still suffered somewhere mentally for the loss of her own baby, and it was expressing itself with her attachment to the child.
An Umbran with attachments will soon become a dead Umbran if he or she is not careful
If Audrina allowed these emotions to affect her swordplay or her loyalty, she would find herself lacking, and so would Ceinwyn. There must be no distractions.
Just as Keldril would have killed his fiancee, Ishtar, if Ceinwyn had commanded it, so too must Audrina be willing and able to kill the babe if Ceinwyn commanded.
Not that that was her intent. No. The child would be raised to be one more thorn in the side of those cursed lightbringers. He would learn necromancy. He would master it.
Ceinwyn would seek out Cear and tell him the child's purpose. And that would be it. And if Toren thought otherwise, why.. then it was time to awaken him from his delusions. It would be time for Ceinwyn to go after Toren, herself.
The Dalninuk had better wake up, before I am forced to wake him up... |

As she rode out of Umbra she took a deep breath. The ride would be long, giving her much time to think. She had not given the child much thought lately. It was not much of a baby to her. It was more a piece of soft clay that she would mold, along with the help of fellow Umbrans. Nothing would stand in the way, not even Toren.
Toren. It was something she had pushed into the back of her mind. The constant sound of hooves against the dirt forced her to think about it. She did not miss him nor did she long for him. The only time she felt anything more than hate for him was when she was in his presence or wrapped up in a dream. She buried her feelings for him like a corpse never to be dug up. Besides, feelings made her weak. There is no room for weakness, not in Umbra.
The horse stopped. Just ahead was a man, a brigand. Audrina hopped down from the steed and quickly pulled out her sword. The road block was not much of a challenge, more an outlet for her frustration. She swung her sword with such precision, such grace, yet she herself was far from graceful. The defeated brigand lay upon the ground, looking up at Audrina with soft eyes. It would not be long before those same eyes, once so full of life, would be lifeless. She used the shirt off the brigand to wipe the blood from her sword and then proceeded to rob the man of the small amount of gold he had. A wide smirk crossed her face as she set out again.
- - - A few hours later - - -
Her cold eyes peered around the small house. The large pouch of gold was in one hand and a book in the other. The small woman named Elana came around the corner and Audrina shoved the gold into her arms. The pouch while in Audrina’s hands was just as heavy as if she had been holding the child it would benefit, but with the transfer, Elana found herself barely able to stand.
“Where is he?” Audrina asked. Just as she asked the small boy came into the room. He looked nothing as he did when she left him there. Audrina was surprised with how rapidly he had grown.
“I see you have been taking him to Caina.” She said as she neared the boy. Elana placed down the heavy pouch as she watched Audrina. From the pouch on Audrina’s back she pulled a number of things. The boy watched her anxiously. She pulled from the bag a dagger, a shield, a dartboard, and a slew of other things necessary for his training. On top of the pile she placed the book that was in her hand. Her voice was motioned towards Elana as the boy curiously inspected his gifts.
“Continue taking him to Caina daily. Make sure he begins the easier spells from that book. He must also use the dagger to kill what small animals he finds and to aim for the dartboard. He has nothing if he can not hit a target.” She concluded nodding once.
Once again she went over to the boy. She picked him up examining him as if he was a sword and she was looking for a flaw in the blade. Lucky for him he was in perfect health. She was fully prepared to murder him had he any flaws.
As she returned to Umbra she did not think nor did she feel. She only killed. Any being that was remotely close to her path was hers for the taking. The grip of her sword was what she loved it was no man, she forced this thought into her mind. Now she must tell the Matron of the boys progress, if only she could find her. _________________ Darrien_Church: he asked what was the church of england based on

"ROOAARR!" the little boy ran ahead of Elana swinging his sword. He rather liked their daily trips to what remained of Caina for it gave him ample opportunity to run and “play”. It was rare for Elana to see him in human form lately. Ever since he learned how to transform into a horrific beast it was nearly impossible to get him into normal form.
He stomped his feet and made noises like an animal, occasionally letting out a loud screech while he mimicked swords play. Elana was well learned in the art of swordsmanship and necromancy. Everyday on their trip to Caina she would fight whatever beast dared to challenge her. The boy always watched with curiosity.
”Elana! Can mother fight as well as you?” he asked. From the time he first was able to form a word, Elana had taught him to speak correctly. Audrina insisted so. She always told Elana, ”When it is time to present him to the Matron he must be well behaved and properly trained. If not, we both know his fate.” Each afternoon after they arrived home from Caina she would teach him whatever his mind would absorb.
Unlike most children, Tay, had not been taught the difference between right and wrong. After a victim would fall to Elana’s sword, Tay would go to the body and check to see if the creature was dead. If it was not, he would finish the job. His tiny fingers would wrap around the dagger his mother had given him and he would do as Elana said. She taught him the locations to stab that would quickly kill the victim. Once dead, Tay would take anything of value off of the body. This is the only alternative to hide and seek a child of Umbra should have.
Tay appears to be around the age of three or four. He is growing at a rapid pace, just as Ceinwyn had said. His face is angelic and shines of innocence. His eyes glow a deep brown that reflects the same color as his hair. The boy is dressed in black from head to toe, well almost. He took a liking to a pair of white fur boots he found on one of Elana’s victims. If Elana tried to take them he would shriek and cry. Finally, she let him be. Elana would call him ”Curious. Adventurous. Naïve.” Audrina would call him ”Unprepared.” Each adjective fit perfectly for the boy. |
