Nearly a month had passed since Beriadan’s death, but she still mourned. He was, after all, Vanya’s most trusted friend and guard. She thought back on the day he had passed frequently. Recapping caused her just as much pain as the day the events actually unfolded.

She could see him standing in the street directly crossing the Palace. Two humans were standing outside. He was only doing his job. In these times they must be alert. So many of her own had sought protection from others or simply became lost in the environment. Her followers were depleting in fear of their lives. Not Beriadan. She watched as the humans began to argue with Beriadan, they no doubt wanted to enter the Palace. Beriadan planted his feet firmly on the ground. She could see one of the men reaching for his sword and she quickly screamed out to him. ”Beriadan!”

He unsheathed his sword as the three began to melee. She remembered stepping forward calling out spells as quickly as possible. In Vas Mani She tried to keep him healed. One of the humans took a mortal wound causing them to stagger backwards before falling to the ground. The other did not even notice, but continued to press against Beriadan.

A tear fell down her cheek as she sat in the library. She could hear the thud of his body against the ground. She could see his lifeless eyes starring up at her. Her emotions ran wild as she remembered the man running towards her. Famine, her trusted Sidhe must have heard the commotion. If it were not for him Vanya, too, would be just as lifeless as her beloved friend. The Sidhe leaped through the air directly aiming for the man’s throat as Vanya fell to her knees.

Unfortunately for the man, Famine was well trained. His body fell to the ground just a hard, but with much more of a mess. The blood from his neck seeped through the cracks in the stone drenching Vanya’s white skirt.

Thinking back on the details caused her to burst into tears. She had not left the palace since that day. She knew that the Regent must be questioning her devotion, but for now she did not care. Her friend was lost and in the most terrible of ways.
