It was growing dark. The moon had risen high into the sky, lighting the world around Phaenre little as she walked. She was growing close, she knew. The signs all pointed to her being near. She smiled slightly to herself, her hand stroking the dagger that was strapped to her thigh.. Oh the things she could do.. Her mind wandered as she walked down the dirt paths, glancing up every so often to check the signs as she moved past them.

And there was the house she quested for. The Caretaker was outside. "Elana?" Phaenre asked, watching the human woman move about the yard.

"Yes?" the woman asked, looking up to her.

"I've been sent by Lady Audrina to fetch Tay." she said nodding slightly.

"...All right. I'll go gather his things." she said, walking into the house. Phaenre followed her inside, until she laid her eyes upon the boy.

She licked her lips, watching him as he fiddled with a book, apparently trying to learn to read. Elana walked upstairs, leaving the two of them alone in the large entry way.

Her hand ran over the dagger again. It would be so easy for her to simply walk over and... No. She couldn't do that... It was too soon. Her revenge would be carefully plotted out and executed. And Audrina would never see it coming.

Elana came back down the stairs, carrying Tay's bag. "Here, M'lady...And, please, do take care of the Tay." she said, nodding to her.

"No worries." she said, grinning, looking from Elana to Tay. "Now...Tay.....DEAR.... I am Phaenre...I am your new nanny..." she said, running a hand through his soft hair. "Be a good boy, and take your bag and meet me at the crossroads. Stay THERE." she said, watching Tay take his bag and bounce out the door.

With him out of the way for now, she turned on Elana. Stepping closer, she circled around her, her hand running through her hair softly. "Mm. Such pretty hair." she said, grinning slightly.

"Th...thank you." Elana said, watching her.

"And..." Phaenre said, stepping up behind her, whispering softly in her ear.

"But?" she asked, tilting her head.

She reached down, grabbing her dagger, and swiftly bringing it up and slitting deep into Elana's throat, and simply...Let her drop to the floor.

"Goodbye." she said, smirking, licking the blood from the dagger before securing it back against her thigh. Phaenre stepped over the body, and made her way out the door.

Once she reached the crossroads, she beckoned Tay to follow her.

"Come Tay...Its time to go home to Umbra."

Tay sat on the edge of his bed as he looked around his new room. The journey to Umbra was long, but he was still full of energy. The house servant, Phae, told him to sit in his room and be a good boy while she went and talked to mother.

He sat and wondered what his mother looked like. Elana told him that she was very strong and had long flowing black hair, but she never mentioned his father. He was most curious to meet his father. He sat patiently until Phae reentered his room. Peering up he asked about his mother and father.

”Are they home yet? Can I see them?” he said anxiously.

”No, Tay, be patient. Your mother just came home, but is in need of rest. I have yet to see your father. It is time for you to take a nap. Lay down.” she said.

He hesitated, but then gave in. As soon as his head hit the pillow his mind began to race with dreams.

Audrina entered her son’s room and gazed down at the sleeping child. She looked him over once before giving him a hard shake.

”Wake up” she said.

He rolled over and immediately a smile crossed his face. ”Mother!” he wrapped his arms around her tightly. Audrina peeled him off of her and sat down next to him on the bed.

Tay ran his little hands over her large stomach. Audrina explained that he would soon have two siblings. His faced gleamed with joy.

”Where is father?” he asked.

”Well, I am not sure. Perhaps hunting. He will be home soon and you will meet him.” she said.

The little boy nodded with a bit of a frown and then begin asking her every question he could possibly think of asking. ”What does father look like? When will my siblings come? Are all of those swords yours?” All of the questions were driving her crazy. She did not have any patience for him, but she tried. ”Your father is very handsome, but he is much older than me. Your siblings will be coming soon. Yes, those swords are mine and do not touch them!” she hissed.

Tay simply smiled at his mother, delighted by her presence. ”Look mother!” He quickly said a spell and turned into a beast. He stomped around the room and flailed his arms about as he laughed. Audrina sat and watched, but quickly told him to stop.

”Save it for training, Tay.” she said to him.

She stood up and made her way to the door. She called down the stairs for Phae and then told her to begin Tay’s lessons. ”I have left out a number of books. I want him to read as much as possible. No playing.” Audrina spoke sternly.

She looked to Tay and said, ”Do you hear me? No playing. Not today.” Tay nodded and ran over to hug his mother. Audrina gave him a slight pat on the back and then turned to make her leave.
