“The prescient lay blind claims to possible futures unfettered by personal intervention, only individual choice may lead to certainty, never the other way around.” – Author Unknown
Singeing heat surged through a great ocean of unearthly flame, burning waves crashing against a scorched basin, the tortured souls of the innocent and unrepentant alike serving infernal retribution amidst the torrid depths. Existing within a realm of chaos, a lone spirit alight with an azure radiance stares into the endless expanse of fire, a stoic glare painting its featureless form, its eyes locked on a shifting mass of flesh pushing its way through the blighted landscape.
Amidst deafening roars, a frightening figure forces itself into view, brandishing its scarred and beaten figure, dried blood staining its already crimson skin like a savage war paint, its eyes vibrating a fiery glow, pupils writhing and silently screaming in agony as they lock intently on their prey. Gripped tightly in its monstrous claws, a living blade, skin and veins lining its exterior set alight by ever burning flames, charring and deforming its fleshy surface.
“Champion of Sin! Your sickening form once again defiles my vision! You seek to liberate yourself from your atrocities? You seek to remain ignorant, grasping at your idiotic ideals, your shattered legacy? All you have birthed is more pain; all your work has only ripened your broken essence to feed my euphoria for torment!”
The daemon spat at the soul, a look of satisfaction crossed its face as it drew the conflagrant blade from its side.
“Your words stand unrequited daemon, decrepitness squirming through a pulse of infidelity. The fires of past transgressions burn dull; I have transcended the pain that has been inflicted.”
From the spirits mouth, divine words of pure resolve permeated the air.
“Fate binds you here, Champion! You cannot strike at me, nor can your childish attempts at rebellion come to fruition. This is your punishment, this is your eternity!”
At the words of the demon, the spirits form shimmered to life, a blanket of ethereal energy draped over its figure, its body alight with an unearthly fire.
“Fate has deemed me here, but it lays no such burden on you. My chains bind me to this realm, an ordinance obfuscated by definition. I hold no such bond to suffering, no such bond to indignities performed by creatures of sin.”
“Then prepare to die a million deaths Champion of Sin, prepare to be subjugated to the pain of infinity!”
As the demons words echoed off the walls of the chasm, a look of incogitable satisfaction crossed the spirits featureless face.
“I am so much more now, Asmodai. I am sins champion no longer. I am its savior.”
An echoing roar resonated over the shuddering canyon walls as the form of a massive demon lunged towards the illuminate spirit. Forming an ethereal blade from its transmutable figure, the spirit stood steady, its body poised in a defensive posture, awaiting the oncoming strike.
A sudden vacancy filled the air as each second ascended to non existence, the motion of time grinding to a hollow stop. In an air of deathly tranquility, the painted forms of two figures neared a climactic convergence. Slowly the winds began to pick up, and the icy howl of a cosmic judgment roared the world to life once more.
Twisting and burning, alight with murderous desire, the demons fleshly blade met with the spirits diminutive sword. The sound of material being torn asunder sliced through the air as the daemons blade parted, its burning flesh ripping apart, tearing the blade in two.
Without hesitation, the spirit lunged forward, its body erupting against its defenseless opponent, the azure sword piercing deep into the demons thick, leathery flesh. Thrusting downward, the demons titanic form toppled to the cool ground of the chasm, the spirit quickly sliding to its feet to stand over its fallen foe.
The winds of the chasm suddenly halted, as if waiting with baited breath for the imminent climax. Fires slowly dimmed, and the sulfurous inferno that consumed the basins inhabitants cowered like a scolded infant.
Arcing an ethereal blade, the spirit thrust forward in a gust of motion, sending torrents of icy air clashing against the neck of the fallen daemon. A sickly snap echoes throughout the canyon as sinew and bone separate the daemons head from its body, the blood soiled earth welcoming it into its crimson embrace.
As the daemons severed head touched the ground below, the fires of the chasm ceased their torturous dance, the sulfurous winds surrendering to a cold, pine scented breeze.
Ascending into the ether, a procession of souls surged through the expanse of a flame basted canyon, deafening howls of liberation merging with the cries of dying fires, birthing a melodious symphony of deliverance. Their clouded eyes locked firmly on an azure spirit, a transcendent look of eternal gratitude emanating from the ethereal mass, an unending requital for an infinite solace. |
