Merci's side ached, but what could one expect considering just a few days ago she had a chunk of her flesh carved from her side.

She remembered the cold ground of the Yew Crypts, as she watched her blood puddle about her. The trap had been well timed, and in her hurry to save the young Lycan child Zari, she had been caught and greatly injured.

One would think, after the chase Jack Kelly, now self proclaimed Lycan hunter had lead them, that they would want nothing more than to destroy the man as he lay rotting in their Umbran prison. Yet in Umbra, such tactical acts of greatness, the expertise with traps...A great foe sometimes makes an even greater ally.

All is never as it seems

He was brought before Merci, Ceinwyn had already looked into his mind, his story was true, he had merely been caught at the wrong place, at the wrong time. Yet he had wounded many there was a weakness in their defense, traps were not something that Umbra had dealt much with and it made Merci give pause.

Forcing him into a kneel before her the Lycan Matriarch layed a clawed hand upon his head, she knew he must surely think his end was eminent. Surely the Umbrans would slaughter him, or perhaps the Matriarch would bite him, turning he himself into a Lycan. Yet no, Merci would not bestow, what was in her mind and in most of Umbra considered a gift.

Jack Kelly I have decided your fate, you shall serve Umbra, you will work in the tavern, serving drinks, food and using your dark wit to entertain. You are now bound to the Skeleton Swill Tavern. You will share all your knowledge of traps with the Warmaster, and, you will be at his beck and call whenever he needs one. Swear Fealty to me and be on your way.

Then with great surprise, as he felt her kindness was overwhelming, this notion quickly dispelled by the fist that slammed a moment later into his face, bouncing off his nose. Merci had punched him full in the face, fury flashing in her eyes. That, Dear Jack, is for injuring your Matriarch.

Be gone from my sight, get to the tavern at once.

So it was done, and so Jack Kelly was surprised to find instead of death torture and punishment he was to now serve death and torture, in the hands of Umbra. Well he could mix drinks, he was a crafty one....

So if by chance you visit Umbra, and your throat is parched, your feet are weary, stop by and meet the new resident Barkeep at the Lovely, Skeleton Swill Tavern. For in Umbra, who knows what adventure awaits..
