Sitting at the table the table the young girl waiting. The wind blew softly enough to blow her green hair off her shoulders. The night held no chill. Willow sat drumming her fingers waiting. A goblet of red wine sat atop the table that she sat. She wasn’t quite sure how the glass even got there to begin with. There were no bar maids of any sort. The Umbran tavern was empty. In fact, the entire town was deserted. Not a single being save herself was out.
Losing her patience Willow rose from her seat and gasped. When she looked at the ground when she rose she saw that it was quite a bit lower than she remembered. But she shook her head and reached for the goblet of wine. Her purple pleated skirt shifted slightly with her movement. The bangles on her arm slid down to her wrist as she picked the goblet up from the table. The violet sleeves blew in the slight wind as brought the glass to her lips. She had barely let the liquid touch her lips and nearly screamed. What Willow saw, was not the face she was expecting to see staring back at her. She saw a reflection in the wine a reflection that had to be hers but couldn’t possibly be. It certainly couldn’t belong to her. She brought the silver goblet to her eye level, to get an undistorted view of the face.
Th facial features were hers, only more defined and more chiseled. Green hair flowed more freely framing her face. Her soft curls hitting her shoulders. The green eyes sparkled with curiosity and mischievousness. At first she thought Nightshade was staring back at her. Yet this person’s features were even more mature than Nightshade’s. Willow held the goblet up with her left hand and touched her cheek with her right hand. She let out a cry of surprise when the reflection mirrored Willow.

What is this? Who is this? A long lost family member that my dearest Great Grandad unleashed upon us?

Coming to her senses Willow threw the goblet as far away from herself as she could. She heard the goblet rebound off a tree spilling its contents onto the ground seeping into the earth. Willow ran to the tailor’s shop.
I don’t’ care if they are closed, I’ll break down the door!
She didn’t have to resort to such a rash action. The door was unlocked and opened with ease. She passed the assorted colored bolts of cloth. She made her way to the mirror. There was enough light for Willow to see the figure in the mirror. As she gaped at the reflection she was indeed a good foot taller and even more curvy then she remembered. She traced her arms down her sides, the reflection copied this action as well. Her arms were muscular and slender. Her hands had lost the last of their childish pudge. As the moments passed she began to realize that the features she eyed in the mirror were indeed her own, a grown woman’s features. As she examined the assets she was beginning to realize were her own. With great reluctance she turned away from the mirror and left the shop. She decided that since they were nice enough to let her break and enter to ogle at herself she could be kind enough to lock their doors to prevent such from happening again.

“Ah there you are dearest”

Hearing the voice come from nowhere Willow jumped slightly, whipped around and drew her kryss so fast she just about lost her balance. Still she advanced, but the man was too fast for her. He had anticipated her rash reaction and caught her arm, bringing her in for an embrace. He let go of her arm and put his arms around her forcing her back into his chest.
“Decapitation before kisses tonight, Willow?”
Willow looked at his as if he had sprouted a second head. “What?” She snapped. “Who are you?”
“ I am who you want me to be. But you have yet to meet me”
Willow smirked and broke free from his hold. She spun around to face him. “Well, we are here now, lets get acquainted”
The man before Willow was fairly built. His hair was the blackest Willow had ever seen, jet black didn’t even do it justice. Disheveled hair made his face appear more playful then serious. What had actually captured Willow’s attention was his eyes. They were the palest blue she had ever seen, there was almost no color at all. His eyes sparkled like the sun on the horizon with impishness. The man couldn’t have been more than his early twenties. He laughed at her brazen composition. “You do not recognize me?” He asked pretending to be hurt.
Willow just rolled her eyes in response and put her hands on her hips careful not to cut her leg with her still drawn kryss. She smiled daringly saying “I’m waiting”
“I was the one you waited for tonight, I am your true love, though you have yet to form me in your mind. You are a busy woman Willow. Too many distractions are keeping you from your life.”
Now I know I am dreaming.
She wasn’t quite sure what surprised her more, the fact that he was professing to be her love or that he referred to a twelve year old as a woman. She was more accustomed to be referred to as a young lady, a girl or at most Warlord. She simply looked at him as he laughed at her once more.
“As much as I would like to stay her for your amusement, I have better things to do.”
“You can’t turn your back on this forever Willow. You dream of this, of me of the reflection you stared at...”
Not wanting him to continue with his speech, partly because she knew he was right she retorted, “Yes, but I can turn away right now” She then turned and walked away. She wanted to put as much distance between her and that man as she could. Willow could still his intense gaze on the back of her head. She turned and saw that he was still standing where he had been and he was watching her walk away. A single thought stopped her in her tracks. What if he’s right? What if I am walking away from everything I want? Willow shook her head and began to rationalize with herself. These are things that you cannot have, the stasis you are in prevents it. Who falls in love with one your age? Besides you gave this up ages ago, why do you still pine for what you can never achieve no matter your efforts?
As Willow debated internally she scarcely noticed the bat that had begun to scratch at her right arm. She swatted at it. The bat swayed but still persisted. Moments later a second bat began to join gnawing at her forearm. Willow smacked both creatures to the ground. She heard a loud maniacal laughter and looked up just as the man before her who claimed to be her true love began to dissolve into hundreds of bats. Hundreds of bats that flew right at Willow. She ran as fast as her feet would carry her. As they reached her, the bats persisted to tear and shred her right arm. Flesh and blood flew every which way. The wound was deep enough that the mirror of reflection that Shade had given her began to peek out. Willow let out a cry as a bat had the mirror with in his teeth and attempted to pull it out. She continued to swat at them, still running to find something to stop them.

Water, I need water, I bet these bastards can’t swim. Willow had run so far she didn’t even know where she was. She had run clear out of Umbra. Then she saw it, glistening off into the distance.
A lake, Perfect!! She ran in the direction of the body of water the wound on her arm bigger than her fist, the mirror barely staying in place. A single shred of muscle kept it from falling out. Willow’s feet thundered hard onto the deck causing the whole wooden structure to vibrate. Unheeding she jumped into the water as she reached the end. Yet, as she landed into the water Willow woke up in her bed gasping.
When she opened her eyes all she saw was green. Willow moved her unbound hair out of her face with her left hand. She blinked as she saw blood upon her fingertips. No sooner did she see that did her right arm begin to ache. Willow glanced over and noticed that her wound from her dream was still there, painful as ever. The mirror still suspended by the single muscle shred.
What the......? Willow inquired as she looked her arm over. Well no use just looking at this, lets get it bound. Willow walked toward her bathroom and pulled out her bandages. She tightly bound her arm and thought to herself. What if there was a way to age me? They were able to do it for the other kids......Then a more rational voice took over Willow, you are lucky enough to exist, don’t push it. You are ethereal and will live forever, isn’t that enough? Focus on things you can control and not go and chase these crazy dreams. Willow finished dressing her arm and walked out of her bathroom. Her arm was still twinging. Willow looked at her arm and pondered, Why didn’t my arm go invisible like it always did when I get injured? As she watched the blood seep through the bandages she decided she needed to at very least confide in someone about this. At the very least they could give another perspective or agree with you that you are foolish for wanting these things, even unconsciously. She was just closing her door as she heard the voice of her father.
“Hello Willow M’dear” Toren said as he walked upstairs. Ah perfect. Willow thought to herself.
