The hour had grown late and Haydn had lost track of time. Creaking on the floorboards outside her room alerted her that Tay had returned home from another training session with his father. She slid out from under the golem she had been working on and stood up. She tossed the screwdriver onto the tool bench and wiped her greasy hands on her smock. Excited over the progress of her work, she wanted to tell Tay all about it. She realized she looked like a wreck and smoothed her hair back.

Oh well, it'll have to do..

She crossed the hallway to Tay's door and knocked. The door opened, revealing a tired-looking, severely exercised Tay. He looked at the oil smudged face wearily.

"You gotta see what I'm working on! it's almost done!"

She tried to tug him, but though his arm was limp, he stood firm. Looking at him, she calmed down.

"I guess you're pretty tired, huh?"

At his nod she just nodded in return.

"Ok, well I'll let you rest, besides, it's not done yet, anyway."

As he closed the door, she went back to her room. She looked over her work, carefully. She needed a few more parts. She had already known some of the pieces couldn't be found in town. Not Umbra, anyway. So she left the house and headed to the moongate. The Britain tinker would have the parts she required.

As a kitsune, she ran along the road to Britain town. People paused to stare as she ran by them. It was silly, Tokuno had been discovered years ago, and they still thought it odd to see a kitsune. She would have laughed in any other situation. But the truth was, not many kitsunes entered "civilization". They were demons, and violent.

Ahh Britain bridge.

She stopped to change back to her humanoid form. The tinkers would be more likely to do business with someone who wasn't walking on four legs. She made her way to the shop, and entered. The tinker was in, and she gave him her list. He told her to come back in 15 minutes. So, she headed out the door to stroll through town.

As she walked along the town, she passed several British citizens. Odd, that each would give her a strange look as they passed her, especially those that appeared her age. Had she forgotten her ears or tails again? She stopped to look into a window. gazing at her reflection, she gasped with surprise. She appeared perfectly human, but her face was covered in grease and oil marks. Her hair was spiky white with black streaks. She was a mess!

She looked about for a pond or stream, finally finding a fountain on the east end of town. She began to splash her face with water, scrubbing with her palms at the oil that didn't want to wash away. It took her quite a while, but finally she was able to clear the marks from her face. Her hair would have to wait until she got home to the bath. It definately needed alot of soap. Satisfied with her face, she smiled to herself. Hearing a noise she looked up from her reflection to the group of girls that were staring at her. Had they been there the whole time? Their laughter suggested so. Her face reddened with embarassment and she turned to leave. As she walked away from the gaggle, her vulpine hearing couldn't help but overhear the loud whispers of one of the girls.

Did you see her hair? I wouldn't go outside with hair like that..

Haydn hurried away from there, mortified, and back to the tinker's shop. She paid the man's bill and took her items. As she made her way back through town, she heard the call of the merchants hawking wares. But, the call her ears seemed to hear the loudest were the calls of the hairdressers.

She finally made it into the promising comfort of the moongate, and ran through the streets of Umbra and on to home. Once she was in the door, she ran to the bathroom to gaze in the mirror. Reaching a hand to touch the spikes that had become so familiar to her, she sighed.

Should I?
