The wolves howling outside provided a soothing backdrop as Ceinwyn sat in the Council Room. Her feet were propped up on the black stone table, in silent mimicry of Arlin's earlier pose. So many events lately, so many possibilities and potentials to consider.
Many things drove her to action, things such as revenge, spite, humor. But none of them compelled the vampire more than that of curiosity. Once she was onto something, she doggedly followed it out, be it for good or for worse. It had led to the prosperity of Umbra. She had been curious to see what could become of such dark putty beneath her guiding hands.
Now, her curiosity drove her to aid Lord Isk in completing the suit of Evil. It had been she who had first made him aware that the chest piece was housed in Molly's hall. She had seen it some time ago, during a visit. The strange armor had spoken to her, told her to find Isk, and so she had. She was anxious to see what it would do when completed. Though, to be honest, she had no desire to wear or own the suit itself. Having once had the helm on her head, she knew the danger therein. She did not wish to become a puppet.
Though, attacking Molly if she fails to comply will probably cost me my nomination for regent.
She laughed into the empty room as her thoughts turned to the body in the lab below. It was almost ready. To have Thrax's demon restored would be of use to Umbra. She needed to contact the Eye of Oggaroth for some assistance. It hung suspended in the liquids that nurtured it. It would soon be time to bring it out onto a table and prepare the muscles so they would not become atrophied.
More recently, there was the arrival of a new face in town. Last eve, she had been host to the largest man she had ever seen. True, she had seen some taller folks, but this one had the width to match his height. In discussion she had learned that he was half ogre. She had only seen similiar in one of the WIT students. Sia-Yia was half ettin, and as such, bore two heads. She didn't think Sia-Yia would ever grow to be this man's size, though.
He came offering the promise of godly power. A plan that was still not completely sold on the half-drow, concerning artifacts. She was always wary of strangers, the random visits from loyalists of Oblivion had set her off more than once in the past. So she kept herself prepared for the catches in the agreement. She was sure there would be one, somewhere. She had a feeling she was right when he hinted that he was up for some intimate "fun". She was sure he must have been joking, and thankfully, she did not have to call him out on it, because Ardashir chose that most opportune time to enter the Council Room, thus piercing the tension in the air.
Ceinwyn barely made introductions before the man was getting up to depart.
"I'll find you..." he'd said, and for some reason, she didn't doubt it.
She knew she'd heard the name Arlin before. But, where? |
