The castle was dark. She could see but it was so dim even the torches looked weary.
She had stolen in the small door at the back of the castle walking into a kitchen that had long since been used. The cob webs and scurrying sounds were enough to turn her back but she persisted. Curiosity was a powerful thing. The need to know, see , smell and taste something unknown or even forbidden was oh so powerful an urge.
Her steps were soft and slow. She tilted he head as her ears picked up the sounds of music. The tune was light and pleasant and yet haunted at the same time.
The castle was huge and filled with so many corridors, she was helplessly lost within minutes. She almost let out a screech when an owl flew down from a wooden beam high in the ceiling of a large room she had entered. The great bird swooped down , picking up a mouse in it's talons only to return swiftly to it's perch.
She wandered into the room still listening to the strained notes of a sad tune. A throne sat on a raised platform and tattered tapestries waved slightly behind. She walked slowly and cautiously to the throne touching the scarred wood with her fingertips. She walked behind the throne into a small chamber with a door even she had to duck to go through.
As she entered the room the little door slammed shut with a bang making her scream out. She turned and tried to no avail to open the door. As she turned once again to give her eyes time to adjust to the darkness she heard a noise.
She reached out to stop herself from running into something. Her hand fell upon a table . She felt along the table and pulled her hand back quickly when she felt cloth on something solid.
She turned again to the door and opened the small window . The moon had come out and was shinning so brightly it lit up the great room. The light spilled into the small window and across the floor in the tiny chamber where she stood.
She traced the moonbeams with her eyes watching them as they danced across the stone floor and up to the table. She screamed and back away as far as the walls would let her. Upon the table lay the remains of what was once a human. The leather shackles had loosed and fallen , dangling from the tables edge.
She trembled as she stared at the gruesome sight and then heard the most terrifying laughter she had ever heard. It seemed to permeate the very walls and grow louder and louder. She covered her ears with her hands , trying to block it out. The small door opened and a cloaked figure stood on the other side.
In a gravely voice that made her shiver she heard him say, " What do we have here?"
He stepped back and motioned for her to come out.
" You may not want to stay in that room. The last occupant was not comfortable with the accomodations. " He laughed low and mean.
She walked slowly out of the room watching him as she came into the great room.
Dark hair flowed across his shoulders. Piercing blue eyes looked down at her.
She started to move away from him when he reached out and grabbed a hold of her.
All at once everything went black. _________________ 'I'll end with an edit to Ditto's post since she obviously doesn't grasp the man code.......................having your sister entertained by another gentleman gives you clearance to entertain their sister without retribution while taking care of mom leads to a blood fued which can only end in death" Gnarlug |
