It took a long while for her to fall asleep. Her mind was racing. Staring at the ceiling seemed to keep her calm, but it gave no aid in her efforts. She thought of her mother and what the battle must have been like. She was happy that Audrina returned home safely, but could not pinpoint her feeling on the victory her father had over her home. How could he fight against his family? She wondered.Did father even care about his wife? She couldn’t shake these thoughts away. She turned on her side and looked at the small origami frog Beowulf had given her as a child. I thought he promised to protect us. She closed her eyes.
Beowulf walked towards her and lifted her high into the air. She was young and very small. Her eyes twinkled and excitement ran ramped across her face. He handed her a present and she sat on his knee to open it. ”What is it father?” She un-wrapped the box quickly as Beowulf sat smiling. A pair of blue earrings shined up at her as her face shined towards her father. ”These are for you to wear. They symbolize my love for you. If you ever miss me, just touch them and remember.”
She felt so happy, wrapped up in this dream, but reality soon pulled her back. She could hear Merci’s voice echoing in her mind as the memory disappeared. ”Does your father love you? She wanted to scream yes, but she could only stand in the darkness. ”Odd. You would think he would be protecting your family, not fighting against them." Atira wanted to tell Merci that he loved his family, but he was mislead, he was confused.
She could see her father leading his troops towards her. She stood next to her mother and Tay, dressed for battle. She could hear someone yell, ”Take down Beowulf first.”
Merci’s voice echoed again, ”Remember this night Atira, remember how your father fought against your mother without hesitation. Remember his priorities when you march into battle. Remember.”
The sea of blue crashed into the massive army of Umbra. She looked frantically to her right and then to her left. Tay and Audrina were gone. Her eyes darted to find her father, in the distance he could see him standing over his mother, sword in hand. Rage built up inside of Atira as she rushed towards Beowulf.
She could hear Merci’s voice again, ”Remember Atira.”
Beowulf raised his sword above Audrina’s body as Atira raced forward. She began yelling out spells, but nothing seemed to make him falter. Atira pushed through the other soldiers, but seemed to be making no progress. She kept her eyes planted on her mother. Get up. Get up. Beowulf looked to Atira with a smirk on his face and plunged the blade into Audrina’s chest.
”Noooooo!” Atira screamed as she sat up in her bed. She wiped her brow and looked around the room with a heavy breath. It was just a dream. |
