All was not as he had left it. Minoc had become a battleground between the Dark Order and the Northern Militia. Umbra was thriving better than ever. Sanctus had recruited more than he remembered, and Alessandra had some strange thirst for blood. That last one, especially, confused him. And now, Vaen had joined forces with the strongest foe he had ever faced: Tarothin Armunn. This surely shocked quite a few people, including Vaen himself.
As he looked over Minoc from the mines nearby, he was flooded with memories of the past. Memories of childhood pranks. Memories of family outings. Memories of Marcus Stanim, his once best friend, and now mortal enemy.
"This is my home..." Vaen said to himself, "How could it have turned out this bad?"
Shaking his head, he thought back but a few nights ago....
=====
"Were any of you even BORN here?!" Vaen shouted angrily towards the Northern Militia men. All were silent, except for a young lady dressed completely in blue with blue hair, who cleared her throat in the direction of Vaen. "You? You were born here?"
The lady nodded slowly.
"May we have words?"
"I... suppose so."
"I won't harm you. Tati can vouche for me." Vaen motioned to Tatiana, an old, shy friend of his.
"Mr Vaen has never harmed me," she said softly.
"Very well then," the lady said.
"Good, then come this way." Vaen led her up towards the unfinished statue of the First Mayor of Minoc. Memories entered his mind of the joyous festivities that would be held here year round. He shook his head, and then looked at the lady. "Please, you have to call the militia off."
"I cannot let the resources of Minoc fall into the Dark Order War Machine," the lady said, "The citizens know this, and we will do what we can to atleast delay them."
"But this war is tearing Minoc apart..."
She looked down for a moment, and then looked back up at him. "You are a strange man..."
Vaen smiled slightly, nodding, "I've been called worse."
She grinned. "I hope you understand why we fight."
He thought for a moment, and then nodded. "And I hope you understand why I fight."
Before she could respond, a voice yelled out from the side. "You there! Halt!"
Vaen looked around, and noticed the man was talking to him. He smiled slightly, and looked towards the man. "You know, I wasn't even moving to begin with."
Not finding the humor, the duteous Malic yelled once more, "Stay where you are. You are under arrest!"
"What! Strangers from a foreign land, come to arrest ME in MY hometown?!"
"You are out of line, sir!" the lady yelled towards Malic. But she was ignored, as more Sanctans surrounded Vaen.
Vaen looked at the lady and nodded once to her, "And this is why I fight, Miss Blue."
"Kill him!" yelled Talon Skyfire from behind Malic.
As the men instantly charged Vaen, he quickly casted a teleport spell, that took him immediately to safety upon a ledge near the unfinished statue. And with that, he would prepare for the upcoming battles.
=====
"Theres no getting out of this now. I will fight for my home town. This war will end, so that it may prosper once more..."
Vaen grabbed his quarter staff, and began making his way back down the mountain, towards Vesper, where battle plans are to be drawn. _________________

Among the chaos of the night's various battles, a question was asked concerning the strange figure who seemed out of place amongst the followers of darkness.
"Sire, who is that man who fights so passionately?" inquired several of the less experienced Sanctian soldiers.
The King pondered a moment before answering.
"That is Lord Vaen Swiftar, a legend in his own right. No matter the enemy we face, nor the justification, you can rest assured he will be among them." _________________ ~Lord Talon Skyfire

Beowulf scouted the forest between Vesper and Minoc. He and Demitas, his trusted horse, rode towards the barricade surrounding Minoc. In the distance he could see Vaen in side their walls.
Beowulf rushed the barricade and was met by a number of mages and warriors. He felt as though he, himself, was holding them off from coming outside of the barricade. Each spell he casted, the mages fell back. Until the warriors used their exceptional healing ability's to keep their mages unharmed.
"What to do.."
Beowulf calmly moved towards the far side of the barricade. Hoping they'd believe he had fled. He waited for a few moments.
"Cmon.."
Beowulf rode fast back towards the heavier defended side of the barricade. One warrior had come out of Minoc, he turned abruptly, trying to make it back in before Beowulf caught him. Spells flew violently towards the warrior as he stormed through a hole in the wall, and there was where Beowulf followed.
At first he was overwhelmed, but he knew he had caught them off guard. Attacking as many as he could he ran back towards the forest, only one followed. Sid, the King of Yew was in hot pursuit of Beowulf.
"Fool..."
Beowulf spun around and began casting quickly. The King was caught off guard and soon overwhelmed by the intence blasts. He stormed through the barricade back into Minoc, falling unconcious in front of the entire defence.
"GET HIM!" Beowulf heard someone cry out.
"That's it, come and get me..."
Beowulf dodged around buildings, two to three warriors and a mage on him at all times. He quickly seperated them and picked a number of them apart. Demitas carried him past Vaen, who seemed to be in intense coversation with a woman.
"I got it handled!" Beo huffed and puffed as he casted spells.
Soon more than five soldiers had fallen to the mage. In the distance he could see portals opening inside Minoc. Again he ran past Vaen.
"Glad your back bud! Not a worry!" Beowulf spun around and attacked two more warriors.
"Stupid Vaen..." he tought.
Finally, the King of Sanctus and his most trusted and valiant soldiers rushed towards Beowulf. The mage merely sighed and turned in the opposite direction. The spells were too overwhelming, it was time to leave. Quickly he teleported off a ledge leaving the soldiers behind. Quickly he casted a spell, making himself invisable, watching. The Sanctians surrounding Vaen now, apparently his words had become dangerous. He watched his returned comrade teleport and disappear.
"There ya go fellas.." Beowulf thought to himself. "First the Militia provokes Mave, now you've directly attacked Vaen. You will bring your down fall upon yourselves." |
