Walter pushs open the door of his home not to pleased about the events in Sanctus. He walks upto his office and there is Merri sitting infront of the desk. Walter walks behind the desk to his chest and quickly replaces his deathrobe with his normal Shadow Black robe.
"Hello dear, How is the baby?" Walter says to Merri with a smile.
"It's doing just fine." She says with a weak smile. They discuss some things about Walter's habits of leaving stuff lay around the house. Walter's mind is distracted focusing on something else so most of the conversation never really sinks in. He wanted this woman to be his wife, it was something that had been turning in his mind for quite some time. This was the woman who showed him what love was, she melted his cold heart. She had made his house a home, he looked forward to coming to be with her. He knew she was the one for him. But he had no idea how to ask it, he wanted it to be just right, he didn't know how exactly to say it, or when to say it. But he knew he wanted too.
Then finally Walter blurts out.
Merri, marry me
Merri blinks he must of caught her off guard she opened her mouth and nothing came out for a moment then she said.
Wh...what did you just say?
Walter begins to dig in his pocket for the ring he had been carrying with him for some time now.
"Merri, will you marry me?" He says as he pulls out the ring.
She looks at the ring stunned her face becoming pale. "I don't know what to say!"
I love you, Merri
Her shakey hands slowly slide the ring onto her finger and she takes a moment to look down at it and sighs.
Love you, too Walter.
Then she looks up at him with abit more serious look on her face.
"Walter, I hope you aren't doing this just because of the baby."
He knew this was going to be asked, but Walter loved Merri more than words could explain, he knew he'd want her as his wife even if there was no baby. "I would ask you the same even if we were not having a baby."
She looks up at him and smiles. "I'm honored. My answer is yes" _________________

Merri, marry me, he said out of the blue. One moment they were talking about the baby and the house, and then this fell out of his mouth. It wasn't really even a question--he just kind of demanded it. In her past, men had made proposals; usually the men felt they could change her, tame her, or simply felt guilty about their bedroom liaisons. Merri never, not once, took one of those offers seriously, and they were often the herald for her to end whatever relationship she'd been in shortly thereafter. She particularly resented the men who seemed to think that an offer of a slightly better lifestyle should make her cling to them if not worship them; her life had suited her just fine.
But this. Oh, this! It took her off guard, it was wonderful, it felt good. She stared in amazement at the diamond ring he nervously offered to her after his words were literally thrown out into the space between them. With shaking fingers she slid the ring all the way onto her finger, the surprise overwhelming her.
Though she hated herself for it, she made sure it was not the baby slumbering in her belly that was the catalyst for what Walter was doing. He swore it wasn't so, and she believed him. In a voice that could barely be heard above the winds outside, she accepted.
Soon after, they retired for the evening, the fire in the hearth roaring against the chilly night.
I love him. I really love him, she thought to herself sometime in the darkest hours of the night when a sound awoke her.
How it frightened her. _________________
. . . But the dark is very trustworthy.
It's always as dark as you thought it was.
And you don't have to work at staying there.
All you have to do is survive it.
And I've been doing that forever.
