Vaen sat in his house in Minoc, overlooking a recent proclamation made by Tarothin. "Another Yew war, it seems."
"Indeed, sir. Sid is the King of Yew," said the messenger.
Vaen looked over to the messenger. "King...? Yew is a town. It's a very spread out village. Being a King requires a kingdom. Not two farms and an abbey."
"I wish no disrespect, sir, but he is the hero of the last Orc wars."
Vaen raised his brow and then burst out laughing. "HIM? Hah! That war would have been lost if it weren't for myself and the Legion. Him... hah. Kain Elderan was the one who specifically requested the help of the Legion, because they needed the muscle power to drive back the Orcs. I still remember that final glorious battle in the Court of Truth. My battle plans. Executed to perfection. If Grig'nag were still alive, Bloodgod rest his soul, he'd tell you."
"So... why does he say he is the hero, then?"
"Why the hell are you even still here?" The messenger froze, without a word. Vaen smirked, "I don't know why he calls himself the hero. All every human wants to do in this world is leave a footprint. That way, they can justify their existence. Sid's trying."
"You say this now, but would you say it to his face?"
Vaen glared at the messenger. This wasn't just any messenger; he was a bit fiesty. Nonetheless, he replied. "Without hesitation. Now before you anger me any more, get out of here."
The messenger started to leave quickly, but before he could, Vaen called out to him one more time.
"Oh, one more thing! I'm now the King of Minoc. Spread the word. I may as well join the club. A mining site and a camp full of gypsies is comparable to a farm and a town full of troglodytes."
The messenger nodded quickly, and then made a quick exit. Vaen put the proclamation down at his desk. He then looked over another document, and signed it. "One step closer." _________________
