Sleep…

Zari shook her head, cringing from the sudden pain that flooded in with the sudden movement. She lay back on her fur bed, body bruised, gashed open, and the only word going through her head was sleep.

Four hours...

She had to stay awake. Ivory had commanded it. A shaky hand moved up and touched the bandage that covered the large gash in the back of her head.

Morus…Uncle Morus… Why had he done this to her? She knew he had never liked her. But why this? Why did he wish to anger her father?


Her eyes tried to focus as she looked around her. Her vision was almost nonexistent at this point. She was only able to make out the outlines of objects. Had the hits to the head impaired her vision more? She wore glasses. Where were they?

Sleep…No, no sleep. Four hours.

She was home. She ran there. This she knew. Her father, Zeth MelGair… Her mother, Dae MelGair. Her ears perked as she heard the door open, and a man entered. She tried to focus on him. She should know him. But.. She couldn’t remember him.

“Who are you?”

“I’m Mikhail.” He said, “Don’t you remember?” he asked, as he looked over her wounds.

“No.”

“Zari, are you okay?”

“I…think so.” She said, nodding slightly, causing the pain in her head to increase.

“Please Zari.. Be okay.”

“Morus..” she said, biting her bottom lip. “Uncle.” She said, frowning a bit.

Why couldn’t she remember?
