Another uneventful day passed in Magincia for Scar. He made certain no elves came in without first registering their names with him and determining their business. Each one would be checked on later to ensure the veracity of their statements, and if one was found false, he escorted them to the Magnate's residence for interrogation. Thus far they had all cooperated well, and he had not seen any elvish blood flow for some time.

He signed out and set out for Thraxstadt to once more check on Lady Tempt. At the temple of the Sun, he ran into his old friend and former Lord, Baron Thrax.

"Good to see you Scar," Thrax greeted him at the doorway. "Come to check on Tempt?"

Scar dismissed his ethereal horse and stepped inside, followed by the Baron. "Yes. How is she doing?"

"Sleeping I think. And a good thing that she has been. We had a visitor this afternoon that I would not have wanted her to meet."

"Oh? Malikai again? I heard he was telling her stories about us, she and I," he said with measured disdain.

"For your own sake, that would be wise," Thrax replied as he seated himself on a crystal throne. "How is the Magnate?"

"He does well. I do not see him often, so he is keeping busy with official duties."

"Good, good. Keep up the good work. If you had to work for anybody other than me, I am glad it is him. He is a man of great worth to this realm, but many are jealous of him and seek to hold him down. One day he will rise to the top. Wait and see."

Scar shrugged. "I don't doubt that, but he seems content with what he has now. His family has returned. I have not seen him as happy in a long time."

Thrax nodded approvingly. "I must go and take care of some urgent business. Enjoy your visit with Tempt," he said as he got up to leave.

Scar saluted and went upstairs to see if she was awake...
