He looked down upon the body, slowly shaking his head for a moment.. Did I choose the wrong path? Should I have kept her here? Frowning to himself, he slumped the pregnant woman's corpse over his shoulder, carrying her away from the tent where he found her, maneuvering around the people that lay, the ones who tried to stop him. He left the brigand camp, and set out to the woods, carrying the corpse over his shoulder.
After walking a considerable amount into the woods, he looked around, making sure he wasn't followed. Vargus then let go of the body, dropping it on the ground next to him. Cautiosly, he untied two small bags from around his hip, carefully placing one bag, which was holding a paste-like material, next to the corpse. Holding the other bag in his hand, he walked a few steps away from the body and started to pour the crushed bones that were held within the bag in a large circle. Finishing that, he looked around for a moment, quickly finding four small rocks, which he placed on the northern, western, eastern, and southern ends of the circle.
He stepped back for a moment, examining what he had done so far, then, reluctantly, moved his gaze over to the bag containing the paste. He walked back over to the area where the he left the body, sighing a little as he sat on it, placing his elbows on his knees and supporting his head with both hands, looking down. Memories of the last time he set fire to the paste filled his mind. Grudgingly, knowing he had no choice, he got to his feet, and continued on with his work, picking the bag up, then walking over to the circle of bones, taking a small dab out of the bag and placing it on the northern rock, then repeating, doing so with the rest of the rocks.
Walking back to the body, he picked her up, cradling the woman in his arms for a moment, looking down to her, scrutinizing the details of her face. With a slight shrug, he carried the woman into the circle, dropping her in the middle of it, standing next to her. He softly muttered the words, "In Flam Grav" as the paste on the rocks around him started to burn.
He took one long, deep breath, savoring the feel of air circulating through his body. Vargus then shut his eyes, held his breath, and awaited the inevitable feeling of death that was soon to come.
Eyes slowly re-opening, he noticed the fumes writher around him, a slight tremor of panic ran through him, dreading what was soon to come. His lungs now sore from the lack of air. He took a large breath in, gagging as the fumes entered his body, coughing madly, falling down on his hands and knees, shutting his eyes tight, pain reverberating throughout his body. Slowly re-opening his eyes as the initial pain started to withdraw, he focused deeply, withdrawing completly into his mind, looking deep into the darkest regions of his thoughts.
Finding the spirit, he yelled out, quickly standing, gripping the spirit by the neck, opening his eyes, examining it for a moment, looking to it with an expressionless face as it whailed at him, screaming. In a soft, monotone voice, Vargus said, You have been summoned from Oblivion, and will serve under me until I deem it fit to release you.. He then plunged the spirit into the body, looking down to it as it slowly got to it's feet.
Vargus then took a small pamphlet out of his pack, putting a small check by the first line, slowly moving his gaze down to the other two for a moment, then nodded twice as he quickly shut the book, placing it back into his pack. Motioning the animated woman to follow him, he tied the bag of paste back around his hip, and walked off into the woods, the animated following close behind him. |
