While contemplating making a journal entry, Thomas sits pondering about lies and hypocrisy. To understand Truth, one must be able to understand and identify it's opposites, lies, and hypocrisy.

A lie is like a pebble in the pond, as it might start off small. But the ripples move away from the lie swiftly, feeding upon the peace of the pond. More lies are told to protect the original lie, and each one becomes stronger to protect the weaker lies. Pretty soon, all peace in the pond is gone, replaced by waves crashing onto the sands around the pond, in all directions. None are exempt, and all shall have to stand against the lie or be washed away by it.

Hypocrisy is the greatest lie of them all, for in it is bound half truths, turned against others to protect the hypocrite. While we can all see the ripples in the pond, it is often times hard to see the effects of hypocrisy until such time as the sand on the beach has been eroded and washed away and you are down to the rock underneath.

The truth may not always be pleasant, but in the end, it is the cut from a clean knife used to cut swiftly and precisely. It heals much cleaner than the cut from a lie, which does far more damage going in and coming out than the truth.

When faced with either telling the truth, or attempting to cover over your actions with a lie, however innocuous it might seem, it is always best to take responsibility for your actions and come clean with the truth. The repurcussions tend to be less severe than to not only have to defend your actions, but to defends your vain attempt at covering them up. The Truth almost always rises to the top, and becomes visible to those that care to look.
