Nimrana recalled from his room in Umbra to the baths in Buc's Den. He hired a young man and a young woman to help him with his ablutions. They ushered him to a large tub of hot clean soapy water and helped him strip off his armor.

As he allowed them to scrub his superior Drow body, glistening magnificently with the water sheen on his ebony form (he couldn't help but preen), he wondered how a certain Sanctan lady fared. He had not seen her since he escorted her to that inane meeting of the Protectorate and heard the Regent announce their nuptials.

He recalled the Spider Queen Priestess told them of a plot against the Protectorate. He had no interest in politics, but he did relish the idea of harming the Regent who had interfered with his personal delights.

The lady had told him that Talon Skyfire arranged the marriage to further bind his royal house with the Regent. He admired Talon's instincts for power mongering. He must have been taught by Drow matrons.

The shock of cold water being poured over his heated body yanked him out of these musings. He gasped and shivered as he cavorted under the clean rinse water, getting a laugh from the young people who poured it out. As they vigorously toweled him off and applied a skin lotion, he winked at them both and smiled, but they remained very professional. Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

He recalled to his room again and donned simple but elegant Drow attire. A loincloth of gorgeous red silk and belted about his slim waist with a golden buckle, thigh high boots of supple Delucian leather dyed black, and a white headdress with long beaded strands along the bottom edge that almost reached his shoulders. Heavy gold bracelets, a ring, and a necklace completed his ensemble. He loved the way the gold contrasted with his dark skin.

He recalled to Sanctus. The lady was not home so he stode into Hanse's Hostel. He spotted two customers seated together in conversation; Langois and a young bedraggled woman he soon learned was Linnian, a vagabond.

Once Langois had been a very attractive elf but recently he had undergone "the change" to human form, complete with waist long beard. Nimrana barely gazed at them as he ordered wine from the waiter and strode to a corner table.

"Why'nt ya wear clothes, ye nekkid heathen?" the young woman called out.

Nimrana turned to smirk at her. Humans often thought being simply dressed was to be without clothes at all and had an overwrought sense of modesty. Drows revel in their sensuality and pride of body. Perhaps humans lacked this sense of self worth. They did so love to cover themselves in layers of material. They also liked to impose their moral values on others.

He wondered how they managed to procreate like rabbits. Surely removing all that material must tire them before they got to copulate. Nimrana wore layers when he planned to hunt, but not when he planned to enjoy an evening.

"I am dressed to fit the occasion, milady, " he answered. "And since you're talking to me, I will sit at your table." And he did.

Linnian wore a simple robe that did not reach her knees. Nimrana could admire her legs from his new vantage point and remarked, "You are not much better covered than I am."

"It was longer but I used some of it for bandages, " she snapped.

The three began to converse. Linnian made it clear she had no home because she had fled her abusive parents. She lived by her wits and on the streets. That she did not take hand outs or any more abuse.

Nimrana offered her a warm bed at his place. She refused his generosity saying she would earn her own way. He assured her that any good deed he performed had ulterior motives and he intended to employ her services. She told him she was not a wench.

He said he never thought she was, but didn't she cook or sew or bake? She said some unpleasant things that implied she did not and she still thought he was trying to get in her pants.

He said it's no wonder you live on the streets without any gold. You have no skills and you refuse employment when it's offered.

About this time Langois pinched Nimrana's nipple.

Taken by surprise, Nimrana yelped and looked at the man in amazement. Langois flustered, "I couldn't help it. It kept looking at me!"

Linnian laughed. Nimrana said, "If you weren't such a hirsute specimen of humanity, there may be more looking at you."

Then he re-engaged Linnian in conversation, however the night drew very late and first Langois excused himself and left. Then Linnian said she'd put her bedroll down in an alley somewhere. Nimrana walked with her outside and watched her go into the night.

The night where shadows blanket the world and make it a very dark place. Where a Drow of the Underdark could walk with unimpaired vision while humans groped their way blindly or nearly so. Nimrana smiled to himself and became one with the night. Unseen and unheard, he went after the girl.

How he loved a good stalking!
