|
Well not super-new, I played for a couple of years around 1999-2000. Yeah I was here for the whole trammel/feluca split thing - go me
Anyway..
Randomly decided to investigate the nonsence of UO to see what's what after so many years and it seems mildly interesting just to diddle about with.
Couple of quick questions though:
> The game went through a phase of hardcore macro abuse to skill up, to the extent that to gain "normally" just became impossibly silly. To gain arms lore for example you needed like, 300 swords or the anti-macro code would make leveling stupidly slow. Is this still the case or have they toned down the system for casual players a bit more?
> Is there still a reasonable population in the game? I was doing a bit of super-old-school playing and found not only trammel Britain to be pretty quite but utterly nobody in vesper, minoc, trinsic. I even had despise all to myself - yay ettin party! I assume (or hope) everyone is just hiding in the new bits with crazy warpy stars I know nothing about
On the plus side however, vendors now seem to stock as many regs as i need for (slowly) leveling up my poisoning/alchemy and NPC's seem to think 500g is a just reward for taking them from one side of town to the other: I'm not complaining
I must say it has been quite a blast from the past to be in ultima again but I do fear that the cripling skill leveling system after 70ish (without hardcore mega macro'ing) as well as the huuuuuuuge gameworld for such a small playerbase will turn me away - hopefully there are still some nice people about who enjoy the game world and arn't out to scam you |

It isn't too too hard to gain skills. It depends what you're wishing to train. If you just wanted to get it done, you could macro it, like you mentioned. But if you don't want to macro, then it pretty much just depends what you're raising. If you told us what you wanted to work on exactly, theres people here who could probably give you some tips/tricks to work it up quickly and casually.
UO still has a fair amount of people. People quit all the time and people return all the time, so it's fairly balanced. Brit Bank is usually packed, you may have gone on some dead times or something? Yew gate fel(havent been in a while) is usually packed. With the Shard Transfer tokens now, people go back and forth between shards to pvp and such and thats why the activity of people goes up and down on Atl. Either everyone comes here for wicked pvp, or every gets bored, transfers and finds their way back It's usually fairly populated though.
On the plus side, if you took your coffee money (not sure how much coffee is in the US..up here in Canada it's like $1.50 for a large) and saved it for a day or two..you could buy between 1-3 mill Gold has become alot easier to get nowa days.
May not have answered your questions exactly how you needed..but I'm sure others will reply as well.
Do you RP? I saw your post a couple days ago on the HOT boards. You should RP. _________________ Brianha ‎(10:04 PM):

Sarian pretty much summed everything up well. I just returned not too long ago myself, and while UO isn't as active as it once was I would say it's still doing fairly well considering the length of time the game has been out.
There are almost always people around, certain times seem a bit quiet though, but that's only to be expected to a point. I know there are certain days where finding people around is hard.
A lot of people have been busy in Moonglow Tram with the even lately as well. But for the most part you can find people in Brit Tram, Yew gate, etc. Just keep in mind what Sarian said about people coming and going. A lot of the PvPers come and go a decent amount from shard to shard.
There are tons of people here who would be happy to help you out I'm sure whether it's tips and tricks for working a char or whatever. I know I just finished off my main and an alt without really breaking a sweat. I was sort of dumbfounded by how easy it is compared to what I remembered if that helps you at all.
If you're interested in RP, take a look around here. Lots of good guilds and good people to get in touch with and have fun with. And welcome back! |

hehe, yeah I posted on those other forums - the people here seem considerably nicer though
I've managed to meet some decent enough people and it's all going not to bad so we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for the warm welcome |

if there is ever anything you need help with there are many people here with far more knowledge than I who can easily answer your questions. _________________ "He's been fired from the Shrimp Boat?" -- Charlaine Harris "Living Dead In Dallas." |
