Sarian stood patiently in the dining room of the Nujelm Palace. Time seemed to slow to a crawl as he waited for the Lord Regent to come inside. He slowly rubbed his leather covered hands together and yawned quietly.

"Not quite sure what I entered upon out there..." Sarian muttered quietly to himself.

* * *

Sarian had approached the Palace with his cavalry carrying him. The shadow platemail covered the dragons muscular body. It's wings tucked tightly to its side and all six legs sped back and forth. In the distance the pair could make out a group of soldiers surrounding the Lord Regent. Three seemed to look nearly identical and he could recognize the Lord Chancellor of Moonglow with ease.

"If anything happens my friend, I fear you will be of little help in this tussle." Sarian whispered to his cavalry. The dragon replied with a complaining grunt.

The Regents' Champion rode in, circling the group and finding his place at Adriens side. He recognized one, Vaen Swiftar, the only warrior to have bested him. Two others had suits that looked identical, uniforms and, what he assumed could be, parade arms. The Chancellor no doubt brought reinforcements for this conversation.

Sarians' hands rested comfortably on his lap. He tried not to make any threatening gestures towards his weapons. Over confident in the fact that he could survive the trio attack, he worried about the life of the Regent. Adrien was not nearly as skilled with a weapon, survival or nearly as well armored as he was.

Adrien waved his Champion away. "Sarian, I need you to do three things for me. First, leave your steed on the marble stairs. Second, head inside. Third, wait inside the dining room for me." The Lord Regent demanded.

"Oh how I -hate- it when he demands things rather than asking." Sarian thought bitterly to himself.

"You're positive?" Sarian asked nonchalantly. Looking at the three triplets, then to Fong.

"Indeed I am." Adrien spoke back confidently. Clearly not afraid of being struck down, or knowing full well it would have been a very bold move of the four Glowians.

Adrien and Isk both stood before Sarian, discussing the meeting outside. The Regent laughed quietly at the threatening gestures. Be murdered on the steps of his palace would only cement his name in history and rallied the loyalists together stronger than ever.

"Sarian here proved his obedience by coming inside. I proved I would not fear their weapons." Adrien claimed.

"Obedience is for dogs and women. I'm neither. I may tear apart your enemies like a malicious Revenent Lion, but that doesn't make me your pet. Oh how I hope you meant to word that differently." Sarian thought to himself.

"I had no desire to exchange blows with three of Moonglows best." Sarian smirked back.

Adrien and Isk had both turned in for the evening. The energy and negative vibes had finally drained themselves from the walls of the palace. Sarian now sat in his spot in the North East corner of the Silver Bow tavern. The Regent didn't require any guards around the palace, he wouldn't argue.

From across the room a figure stepped from the shadows. He walked carefully and non-threateningly across the room, towards the lone warrior. Sarian placed his bottle on the table, his eyes watching the stranger ever so carefully. The stranger lifted his hand and pointed, with his index finger, at Sarian.

"You and I need to talk."

It was quiet in the surrounding area, only the distant waves of the ocean and the on going chants from the young warrior could be heard.

Sarian gripped his kryss tightly with his right hand. His shield in his left. His shadow colored clothe tunic covered his armored chest piece. Chain mail leggings protected his bottom half, his feet covered by fur boots. Leather gloves and a leather gorget protected the rest of his exposed skin, minus his face. The skinned head piece of a bear, embued with magic to increase his strength and accuracy, covered his head. His long black hair hung untidy over his shoulders. Dark blue eyes were covered by closed eye lids, his crooked nose breathing in, his breaths exhaled through his mouth. His long narrow face, focused intently on the task at hand.

"Thalshara!" Sarian muttered again, and again.

His hand tensed around the blade and once more he chanted, "Thalshara!". His blade engulfed in flames, allowing his attacks to be dealt with even greater fire damage.

One Week Earlier * * *

The figure from the shadows had approached Sarian, un threateningly. Sarian hadn't need to ask who the man was, he was quite aware. He welcomed himself and took a seat directly across from the young warrior.

"It's been a long time, Sarian."

"I haven't seen you in ages, Narius. Where've you been? Playing hide and go seek still?"

"Oh you've seen me, I'm just a master of disguise. And aye, I have been "playing" hide and go seek. Its my income." Narius replied and smirked.

"I take it you're still working for my uncle then aye?" Sarian replied

"Working with rather. But aye, he's got a decent crew together. Not as much of the old smash and grab and stab like we use to do. Bit more suave and low key, but it puts gold in our pouches. I see you've done quite well for yourself eh? Dining in fancy Nujelm, staying at the palace whenever you like? Life of a Noble." Narius grinned and leaned forward in his chair.

"Things have come together for myself aye. I told you, I'd pursue my own life and do just fine." Sarian corked back.

"Ha!" Narius blurted out. "Your own life? You turned your back on the only family you had left. You left our crew, to pursue something different than being a mercenary! You wanted something more out of life than robbing ships, stealing from towns and gathering information. Now look at you! You're still working for pay! All the way from Moonglow to the Regents side! You haven't done a damned thing with yourself boy, you're just a lone mercenary. It's the only way you lived and it's the only way you'll live." Narius spat the words at Sarian.

In the blink of an eye Sarian had drawn his blade from his sheath. Up from under the table and thrusted forwards, directly for the throat. Narius veered to the left, using his left hand to snatch Sarians wrist and slammed it towards the table. His right leg kicked the chair to spin in the 180 degree circle, so that he was now facing east. His right hand shot to his belt and back up.

As quickly as someone could draw two breaths Narius had disarmed Sarian and launched a shuriken, grazing his neck.

"Don't tussle with me boy. I haven't come here to insult you, I'm merely opening your eyes to what you've become. Nothing better than what you were when we worked together. Only now you wear more expensive armor and live a higher class life style. Good for you though, at least one of us knows how to make the good gold!"

Narius sat rather tall in his chair, roughly the same height as Sarian, about 6'1. His face was cleanly shaven and no visible scars. He was wearing a bandana tied tightly around his head, a dirty white shirt and plain leather pants. He had a sash tied around his upper torso and a ninja belt tied around his waste. Very worn down boots covered his feet, and he had what looked to be fairly expensive jewelry on his hands and wrists.

"Then what have you come here for?" Sarian spat frustrated. He tugged his arm back and sheathed his kryss. Narius fixed his chair to once again face Sarian.

"I mean aside from the fact that you wish to 'open my eyes to what I've become'. You wouldn't just randomly pop up like this unless it was something important." Sarian calmed down, resting his back against the chair.

"You're absolutely right! I've been spending quite a bit of time over in Moonglow. For what reasons, I cannot state, and you of course understand why." Narius spoke slightly cheery now. Sarian merely nodded his understanding.

"A fella over there, Vaen Swiftar, has put together an elite unit of fighters to protect Moonglow. Not only has their regular military increased and improved a ton, but now they have a special class of fighters."

"Special class?" Sarian tilted his head.

"Aye! Elite fighters, with gifts just like your self. This Swiftar fella has perfected the use of some arcane magic along with his warrior instincts. Not a warrior using magic, not a mage using a weapon, but something more. An Arcanamach. That's the only way I can define it. Someone who uses equal amounts of magic and regular melee brute force."

"What kind of magic? Necromancy? The spells of Chivlary?"

"Much more than that. Wait..Necromancy? Did I say they used the dark arts? No! I said arcane powers." Narius muttered frustrated. "Look, time is money, shut up and pay attention. They heal and survive the same ways you do, using the limited amount of magic in their veins to cast spells of Chivlary. But they've learn to tune into their core magic and have mastered the art of elven magic. Spellweaving."

"This is interesting indeed. That'd explain why I saw three of them looking identical this evening. They must be the elite." Sarian stated.

"Precisely. That's why I came to you, I was watching. They would have torn you apart boy. Just as skilled as you, but with even more magic. Luckily for you, the group hasn't had extensive training together, but something tells me they would have known how to beat you down. Listen boy, your uncle always saw great potential in you. That's why we all supported you on your endeavor to find something greater in life."

"Are you suggesting I go train with Vaen? Because that's absurd."

"I don't care what you do. All I'm sayin is that you should follow your heart. Do what you feel best for yourself, and not what pays the best."

"I'm fairly certain I could learn this magic on my own. I could train myself to fight just like any of these 'Arcanamachs' can." Sarian smirked.

"Do what you wish boy, best of luck to you. If I were you, I'd keep my nose clear of those fellas for a while, if theres trouble brewin, you may not want to get involved. If you do, be prepared to fight yourself about five times." Narius winked and stood up. "I assume you can figure out the rest on your own."

"Uhh thanks." Sarian coughed. "Wait...Where's George, I thought you brought him everywhere?"

Narius clapped twice and pulled a banana from his pouch. A large gorilla barreled down from the rafters above where the two at been sitting. It hurried over to the banana on all fours, jumping and snatching it from Narius's hands.

"Good boy, George. I'll be seein ya around Sar, take care and be careful."

The figure disappeared into the darkness. Sarian sat quietly at his table, for only a brief moment.
