The demolishing of the Wolf's Lair at Alderglen made certain that any clues as to the demise of Malikai would be forever hidden. Thraxas had the stones sold at auction and made a slight profit.

He believed his excuse for having lost Poppy to the daemon satisfied Ishtar. He told her they got momentarily separated and one of the daemons flitting about the island snatched her away, out to sea. His grief and tears were most convincing, as were the "wounds" he showed her when he himself was attacked shortly after Poppy was whisked away.

Anduril's disappearance had to be handled differently.

Once or twice a week his captors forced him to write a letter home, detailing how things were going in Moonglow, and the content of his studies. A ring-summoned doppelganger did the rest. It stood in for Anduril in classes (in case someone came to check in on him) and even made an occasional trip home. The creature had been briefed well but when queried about a subject it didn't know, its simple excuse of having a headache seemed to head off suspicions.

Thraxas was pleased with his efforts. He had successfully supplanted his "brother," assumed all his assets, removed his nearest threats, apparently fooling everyone in the process.

He could now sit back and enjoy the fruits of his nefarious labors for years to come.
