Davaran Skyfire sat within his office in the Castle Blackguard. Recent days had occupied his days fully. With Sire gone after Church he had been overloaded with work, and the paperwork from events months past had been surfacing finally. Incidents of necromancers, cloaked individuals, all required notation, but it was the parchment in his hand that shook his melancholy slightly. Recalling the night, a vivid image flooded his mind, as if he'd been placed back in that series of long moments..

"damn it, Umbra to our left, and one of theirs nearly bled out.." He thought as Thurisaz rushed past him, moments passed, the child seem to regain until finally standing. Dav's mind shifted to his own daughter, to the daughters of fathers he'd seen in his life, it was strange how the mind worked, he had heard her name but couldn't recall it at the moment...

"Deme..is that what they called her?" Dav beckoned a messenger, not one of the recruits, warned him to leave no idea of sender and search Umbra for the girl, when asked of the parcel he looked down at one of the beaten packs he had a tendency to carry, he caught glimpse of one of the stuffed dragons from his own house. Dav had no idea why it was there, but shrugging, he turned it over and watched the rider exit. He'd had just enough time to scribble out a note.

Quote:
Hello child, I do not know if you recall me. I was one of the Sanctan men present the night you were found in Vesper. I hope you are doing better, and that this note doesn't cause you trouble. Good luck to you lass.

Davaran had kept it short, he didn't add it, but he hoped to never see her face again. Regardless of innocence, she still may one day swear to kill his men or family, but that wasn't what troubled the Lord Commander, it was the fact he had made a connection.

Cinnamara leaned against the door to her husbands office. Little did he know she was there. But she was. She had scarcely seen him in the previous weeks, between her duties and his, it had kept the both of them apart.

Paperwork. She thought, sighing slightly at the thought. Again, it was the duty of the officers, one, that was indeed annoying, but it had to be done.

With the times they lived in, between the Cappadocians and the other musings and troubles of the current day, she realized what a bad time it was to bring another child into the world.

Her children didn't know. She hadn't told them. But by now of course it was obvious, the twins having grown up so fast. Dragan, off to his training, and Caia, dong the things that so often amused her. Such is life, as it is given to one, it could be taken away just as fast.

It was definately time for her and Davaran to talk. The paperwork could take a hold for a few minutes. Slowly she turned, pushing the door to his office open, and disappearing inside.

Standing not far from where the accident with Langois happened, Demetria stood, listlessly nocking arrows and shooting at the Orcs. There was really no sport here for her, but it was a way to pass the time. Her buddy was off with his family bonding with the new baby, and she really didn't have any other people to hang out with when it wasn't time to train or participate in Umbran events.

When the rider emerged from the western cave, Demetria forced her bow down but didn't sling it over her back. Recent events had her a little confused on when to trust and distrust so it was better safe than sorry.

So when the guy reigned in his mount and said in a commanding voice, "Are you Deme?" it frightened her a bit. What was this about? Her gaze took in the immediate surroundings and she assessed her chances of a quick getaway if this was something turning ugly.

"Who wants to know?" she replied, doing her best to sound as if she was bordering on defiance.

"The Kingdom of Sanctus," came the reply.

The girl's eyes narrowed and her grip on her bow took on that of one about to lift, nock, and fire...yet the bow stayed pointed down.

"State your business and begone. These lands are dangerous to your people," she said in her most commanding tone.

"I've a parcel for the girl Deme. I come in peace," the rider stated.

"Leave it on the ground and make sure I can see your hands, traveler," came the next command. Demetria was secretly in awe of herself for sounding so very grown up.

The rider nodded and did keep his hands visible as he dismounted. His horse stood obediently and still despite the roaming Orcs. In plain view, the man quickly removed an item from his saddle-pack. Holding up a small object in one hand and a folded parchment in the other, he pointedly bent at the waist and left the items at the side of the road.

Demetria nodded at the man, and the gesture was returned. He remounted and spurred his horse into a full turn. Little dust was kicked up as the animal took the man back in the direction from which he came.

When the sound of the hooves faded, Deme walked over to where the items lay. Her eyes widened when she realized that the object left there was a stuffed animal. A dragon! Before she picked it up, she slung her bow across her back and grabbed the note to read it. There was no signature, but the words were powerful. A memory from the night in Vesper raced through her mind, a man wearing a kasa, protesting "She's just a child!" She wondered if that was the sender of the gift, and tried to remember others there that night.

Despite her best efforts, Demetria was touched. Her lack of blood relations had been bothering her of late, especially since the Shrine Incident. It seemed that some events really illustrated that harsh fact to her, and she was growing adept at avoiding such thoughts when she needed protection from obsessive ideations. "Wow, cool!" came the exclamation as she picked up and snuggled on the dragon.

With a whistle, her ghostly mount Necros appeared. Together with Necros, stuffy dragon under one arm, Demetria raced to a place she was known to go when she just needed quiet time--up on the mountain where that weird little Necromancer reigned supreme. She perched herself in one of the window arches, kicking her feet back and forth merrily and hugged on the toy. Before long, her glove was off and she was half asleep, thumb in her mouth.

Even if she was wrong about the person who sent it, things were ok. Someone thought of her and it felt nice. She realized she'd have to keep her dragon in a place away from eyes connected to brains and mouths which might question its sudden appearance, but that was ok too.

She dozed.
