Duke Silverwind collapses into his seat having returned from his journeys across the lands, he lets out a deep sigh as he takes up his quill and begins to draw up his findings.
The Dukes journey through the countryside’s of Britannia and through the whole of the new lands of Malas was now complete, hopes that reports of happenings of the realm being proven false had now been sadly dismissed.
One of the first citizens Duke Silverwind encountered had called himself Vaen, he had spoken of many things happening within the realm. Dwarves reappearing in the area of Felluca Minoc, the appearance of a new order referred to as Purus Decretum. Vaen had expressed he had very little knowledge of this new group but had recalled a man by the name of Nazralte being in their ranks. Lucus had heard of this Nazralte before and recalled he had served the isle of Moonglow; Nazralte had always been spoken of well so the Duke did not worry too much of this group.
Vaen had also spoken of several changes within Trammel Minoc that the Duke was unaware of, the last reports had stated the city was under the hold of the Drow. According to Vaen the city had been liberated by the Humanists, with their mission complete the assembled men of Humanis had left the city. [/I]
It was good to hear that the city of Minoc had been freed of the hands of the Drow but the city no doubt was still suffering immensely, first its occupation then this battle within the city, the Duke made a note to gather a small patrol to ascertain the condition of the city and its people.
The Duke and Vaen spoke on several other matters and then parted as Vaen had to retire for the evening. Duke Silverwind was glad to have met this Vaen and looked forward to speaking with him at a later date, he had appeared to be a good man and good men were always welcomed friends.
Duke Silverwind began his ride towards the place the natives of the new land referred to as Hanses Hostle; it was there he met several brothers and sisters in Virtue. The Journey to the tavern was not without incident; along the way he had encountered a band of cutthroat brigands that began to attack on site.
Though caught slightly off guard the duke was able to repel the handful of murderous thieves having mortally wounded one, the others fleeing having neither the honor nor courage to stand and deliver. The Duke noted the area for return at later date once the lands of Brittania had been secured.
Brittania had to take precedent over these new lands, as much as the Duke wished to aid the people of this land he still had his own lands to care for and defend. These lands, Silverwind vowed in his heart, would not be forgotten.
Upon arriving at his destination the Duke encountered a conflict between a band of Elves and Drow. The Duke tried to speak with the Drow to dissolve this escalating conflict but they would nay listen, the attack began shortly after. It was then that the Duke came to know the elven woman Isilmea and the Elven male known as Khyl’Dran.
The one called Khyl’Dran had proved very wise, kind, and noble. Duke Silverwind and Khyl’Dran spoke for several moments, the Duke expressing his sorrow over the declining relations with the Elves, the elven leader expressing the same sharing in the Dukes hope for a brighter future between men and elves.
This again was something that weighed heavily on the Dukes mind; the elves had always proven wise and true. This growing separation between men and Elves the Duke could only hope would be repaired over time.
Having spoken with Khyl’Dran and the Lady Isilmea briefly the Duke had come to realize a blood feud between the two races, this was something to keep a eye on indeed lest it spill over into the realm of Brittania and men.
Later in the evening Duke Silverwind had come to meet a much darker being, one referred to as Galnor. Upon Galnors entrance the Duke had noted the blood red bones the man had adorned all over his body to a lady called Dragoona. Galnors ears quickly picked up upon the Dukes words and soon after a conversation between the two began.
At first the conversation was calm and flowed well between them, this quickly changed though as the Duke began to speak of the Paladins and their city to the north. The one called Galnor grew upset claiming that the paladins had massacred his race, had broken the seals upon the depths called Doom to plunder its riches, that virtue had brought nothing but suffering to his lands and was unwelcome.
The Duke was quick to defend the virtues of his Lord British claiming that no paladins would ever commit such acts, as he continued to speak about the good of the Virtues as well as of the people in the new lands that had wished to be of the light, Galnor grew angry slamming his hand upon the table and drawing his face close to Silverwinds.
The two exchanged their final comments to one another, Galnor storming out of the dimly lit tavern shortly afterwards. It was then Lady Dragoona began to speak of Galnor and the paladins of this land. She had supported the claims of Galnor, that his people were indeed hunted down by the paladins, that doom was indeed opened to satisfy the greed of the corrupted men of light.
The Duke was greatly saddened by all of this and started to feel compassion for Galnor for all that had happened to the man. The Lady continued speaking that peoples such as the orcs and lizardmen were often hunted down and murdered simply for being what they were, the duke was quick to speak upon this.
While the Duke had spilled the blood of many Orc in his service never had he simply because the creature was different, he began to speak of the sage called Gub Gub who had been the son of the orc chief and how he had come to follow the virtues.
Within every culture was the capacity for good and evil, this was something the duke believed in firmly. The Virtues were nay established for man alone but for all, to slay simply out of indifference would be hatred and prejudice. Such things should never be spoken of in reference to paladins and men of light.
During the Dukes travels he had come to learn of many dark things but most importantly the decline of his own race. Humanity it seems was beginning to forget their roots, their virtues. Countless acts of paladins and men of light doing evil in the name of corrupted Virtues had the duke heard.
This needed to change before the people lost their ways completely and declined into decadences and dark paths. The Duke decided to focus upon this first and thus began to prepare a speech to give to his brothers and sisters of light within the once honorable body of the Regency.
The Regency itself was beginning to lose its ways, the body of light was starting to tint, and this could not be ignored. Though not all had fallen within the government the damage was being done, darkness was slowly being allowed to creep into its halls of honor. Not in a thousand years would the Duke had thought this body would come to its current blind state, how could they even entertain the idea of allowing admittance of a group that spreads nothing but hate and prejudices across the lands?
The Duke looked slowly over to the candle by his bed, the hour had grown late but his speech was to be delivered the next eve. With heart heavy the duke raised his quill and began to etch the first words of his speech….
